  1. 1. System Aspects and Modulation Strategies of an HVDC-based Converter System for Wind Farms

    Author : Stephan Meier; Hans-Peter Nee; Boon-Teck Ooi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Isolated AC DC Converter; Mutual Commutation; Soft Switching; Voltage Source Converter; Cycloconverter; Modulation Strategies; Medium-Frequency Transformer; HVDC Transmission; Wind Power; Wind Farms; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract :   In this thesis, a new HVDC-based converter system for wind farms is investigated. It is based on a mutually commutated soft-switching converter system and provides a unique integrated solution for the wind turbine generator drive systems, the wind turbine interconnection, and the power conversion for HVDC transmission. 2. 2. On Bit-Wise Decoders for Coded Modulation

    Author : Mikhail Ivanov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bit-error probability; L-values; labeling; Gray code; coded modulation; log-likelihood ratio; maximum likelihood decoder; Additive white Gaussian noise; quadrature amplitude modulation.; interleaver; flat fading channel; pairwise error probability;

    Abstract : Coded modulation is a technique that emerged as a response to the growing demand for high data rates. It was devised to achieve high spectral efficiency with high reliability, potentially approaching Shannon’s capacity. The main idea of coded modulation consists in combining error-correcting coding with higher-order modulation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Strategies for modulation of dendritic cell responses

    Author : Annette E Sköld; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : With increased knowledge in dendritic cell (DC) biology, innate immune receptors and their ligands, and the shaping of adaptive responses, refined approaches to modulate our immune system are today emerging as treatment strategies for chronic infections and severe cancers. At the center of attention stand DCs – the innate immune cells that orchestrate the adaptive immune responses. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modulation of Receptor Signaling and Functional Selectivity in Neutrophils

    Author : Michael Gabl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; G-protein coupled receptors; reactive oxygen species; ligands; functional selectivity; allosteric modulation;

    Abstract : Neutrophils are important effector cells of the innate immune system and in the regulation of inflammation. Many of their functions, such as chemotactic migration, secretion of granule constituents and activation of the oxygen radical-producing NADPH-oxidase, are regulated by cell surface receptors. 5. 5. Serially Concatenated Space-Time Coded Continuous Phase Modulation

    Author : Dhammika Bokolamulla; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; serially concatenated codes; symbol-by-symbol {MAP} detection; factor graphs; sum-product algorithm; Iterative detection; multiuser detection; space-time codes; continuous phase modulation;

    Abstract : Certain problems associated with reliable digital wireless communication over a frequency-flat slow Rayleigh fadingchannel are treated, when the transmitted signal is modulated using continuous phase modulation (CPM) due to the desirable properties of CPM. The primary focus of attention is on detection strategies, and the thesis proposes iterative detection algorithms for CPM signals transmitted over frequency-flat slow Rayleigh fading channels.
