  1. 1. The influence of graphite morphology on the elastic behaviour of cast irons

    Author : Torsten Sjögren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Cast iron; flake graphite; compacted graphite; spheroidal graphite; elastic behaviour; modulus of elasticity; graphite modulus of elasticity; nodularity; aspect ratio; plastic deformation; acoustic emission; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of different grades of cast iron. In flake graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. In contrast, with spheroidal graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are high while the thermal conductivity is low. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influences of the Graphite Phase on Elastic and Plastic Deformation Behaviour of Cast Irons

    Author : Torsten Sjögren; Ingvar L. Svensson; Sten Johansson; Jorge Sikora; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron; Flake graphite; Compacted graphite; Spheroidal graphite; Elastic deformation; Plastic deformation; Modulus of elasticity; Graphite modulus of elasticity; Strength coefficient; Strain hardening exponent; Acoustic emission; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : The amount and morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of cast iron. For instance, in flake graphite cast irons the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. READ MORE

  3. 3. Strength grading of structural timber and EWP laminations of Norway spruce : Development potentials and industrial applications

    Author : Jan Oscarsson; Anders Olsson; Marie Johansson; Hans Joachim Blass; SE-351 96 Växjö Videum Science Park SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden SP Wood Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fibre angle; grain angle; knots; laser scanning; machine strength grading; modulus of elasticity; side boards; strain; structural timber; wet gluing; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Machine strength grading of structural timber is a sawmill process by which considerable value is added to sawn products. The principle of such grading is that the strength of a timber member is predicted on the basis of a so called indicating property (IP) which, in general, represents an averaged value of the modulus of elasticity (MOE) measured over a board length of about one meter or more. 4. 4. Towards a measurement of paper pulp quality : ultrasonic spectroscopy of fibre suspensions

    Author : Yvonne Aitomäki; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industrial Electronics; Industriell elektronik;

    Abstract : For the paper and pulp industry in Sweden and Finland to remain competitive against countries with lower overheads, they have to constantly strive to improve the quality and the efficiency of the manufacturing processes. One of the ways of doing this is to introduce sensors that will provide valuable online feedback on the characteristics of the pulp so that adjustments can be made to optimise the manufacturing process. 5. 5. Strength grading of structural timber and EWP laminations of Norway spruce : Development potentials

    Author : Jan Oscarsson; Anders Olsson; Marie Johansson; Mikael Perstorper; SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; bending strength; fibre angle; grain angle; knots; laser scanning; machine strength grading; modulus of elasticity; strain measurement; structural timber; tensile strength; wood; böjhållfasthet; draghållfasthet; elasticitetsmodul; fibervinkel; konstruktionsvirke; kvistar; laserskanning; maskinell hållfasthetssortering; trä; töjningsmätning; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Strength grading of structural timber is a process by which value is added to sawn products. It is to the greater part carried out using machine grading based on statistical relationships between so called indicating properties and bending strength. READ MORE
