6. Molecular And Cellular Networks in Critical Illness Associated Muscle Weakness : Skeletal Muscle Proteostasis in the Intensive Care Unit
Abstract : Critical illness associated muscle weakness and muscle dysfunction in intensive care unit (ICU) patients lead to severe morbidity and mortality as well as significant adverse effect on quality of life. Immobilization, mechanical ventilation, neuromuscular blocking agents, corticosteroids, and sepsis have been implicated as important risk factors, but the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unclear. 7. Nuclear pore membrane glycoprotein 210 as a new marker for epithelial cells
Abstract : Epithelial cell polarisation is a prerequisite for the branching morphogenesis in several organs. Differential screening techniques were used to identify genes, which are upregulated during induction of epithelium in early kidney development. READ MORE

8. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes
Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. 9. Mechanisms for TGF-β-Mediated Regulation of the Actin Filament System and Apoptosis
Abstract : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a member of a large superfamily of cytokines which participate in many different types of cellular processes, such as growth inhibition, cell migration, differentiation, cell adhesion, wound healing and immunosuppression. Alterations of TGF-β superfamily signalling results in several different disorders, including bone disease, vascular disease and cancer. READ MORE

10. Laminin-1 and receptors : Laminin α1 chain in important for epithelial development
Abstract : Laminins are heterotrimeric glycoproteins that are major components of all basement membranes. Integrins from the β1 -famjly and the dystroglycan complex have been shown to be important receptors attaching epithelial cells to the underlying basement membrane. READ MORE
