  1. 21. Exploring Cellular Dynamics : From Vesicle Tethering to Cell Migration

    Author : Parham Ashrafzadeh; Johan Kreuger; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; cancer; cell migration; exocyst complex; exocytosis; FGD5; lipid rafts; plasma membrane; receptor trafficking; VEGFR2;

    Abstract : Cells in the body communicate with each other in order to cooperate efficiently. This communication is in part achieved by regulated secretion of signaling molecules, which when released from a cell may activate receptors present at the plasma membrane of an adjacent cell. Such signals affect both cell fate and behavior. READ MORE

  2. 22. Fundamental interactions in transition metal reactions

    Author : Michael R. Coates; Michael Odelius; Markus Kowalewski; Abhik Ghosh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum chemistry; electronic structure; multiconfigurational; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; excited state molecular dynamics; non-adiabatic dynamics; solvation; organometallic complexes; x-ray absorption spectroscopy; photoelectron spectroscopy; time-resolved spectroscopy; femtosecond; picosecond; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Transition metal complexes that participate in homogeneous reactions often perform the role of a catalyst, facilitating novel reaction pathways. When these complexes are pushed away from their equilibrium, the arrangement of the coordinating ligands around the metal center is perturbed and new reaction pathways are opened. READ MORE

  3. 23. Chromatin Dynamics in the Fission Yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Author : Carolina Kristell; Pernilla Bjerling; Per Sunnerhagen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chromatin; Gene induction; Silencing; Subnuclear localization; Stress; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : In the eukaryotic cell nucleus, spatial organization and dynamics of the genome is important in the regulation of gene expression. This thesis describes the use of the fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, to study chromatin regulation and dynamics. We used nitrogen starvation to induce transcription of genes in fission yeast cells. READ MORE

  4. 24. Collision- and photon-induced dynamics of complex molecular ions in the gas phase

    Author : Linda Giacomozzi; Henning Zettergren; Jason Greenwood; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAHs; Porphyrins; Adenine; Flavins; Biomolecules; Collisions; Experiments; Reactions; Non-Statistical Fragmentation; Molecular Dynamics; Photon-Induced Fragmentation; Luminescence; Photoisomerization; Proton Transfer; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I report experiments probing collision- and photon-induced molecular dynamics in the gas phase. Excited molecules formed in such interactions may relax by emitting electrons or photons, isomerization or fragmentation. READ MORE

  5. 25. Ultrafast Magnetization Dynamics : Element-selective studies of magnetic alloys using ultra short XUV pulses

    Author : Rameez Saeed Malik; Olof Karis; Uwe Bovensiepen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetization dynamics; magnetic alloys; HHG; ultrashort laser pulses; magneto-optical Kerr effect MOKE ; Gilbert damping; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I investigate the ultrafast magnetization dynamics in 3d ferromagnets and their alloys with ultrashort laser pulses. The high harmonics generation (HHG) setup provides extreme-ultraviolet photons with energies 35-72 eV, which is the energy range where 3d metals have their M2,3 absorption edges. READ MORE
