  1. 1. Protein Folding and DNA Origami

    Author : Mark Marvin Seibert; David van der Spoel; Helmut Grubmüller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; Molecular Dynamics simulations; DNA origami; Biophysics; Biofysik; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the folding process of the de novo designed polypeptide chignolin was elucidated through atomic-scale Molecular Dynamics (MD) computer simulations. In a series of long timescale and replica exchange MD simulations, chignolin’s folding and unfolding was observed numerous times and the native state was identified from the computed Gibbs free-energy landscape. 2. 2. The choreography of protein vibrations : Improved methods of observing and simulating the infrared absorption of proteins

    Author : Eeva-Liisa Karjalainen; Andreas Barth; Astrid Gräslund; Timothy A. Keiderling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Infrared spectroscopy; FTIR; protein; atpase; amyloid; caged compound; amide I; transition dipole coupling; exciton theory; simulation; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis has striven toward improving the capability to study proteins using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. This includes development of new and improved experimental and theoretical methods to selectively observe and simulate protein vibrations. READ MORE

  3. 3. NMR Investigations of Peptide-Membrane Interactions, Modulation of Peptide-Lipid Interaction as a Switch in Signaling across the Lipid Bilayer

    Author : Sofia Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Göran Widmalm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; membrane mimetic; NMR; biophysics; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; biofysik; Biophysics;

    Abstract : The complexity of multi cellular organisms demands systems that facilitate communicationbetween cells. The neurons in our brains for instance are specialized in this cell-cellcommunication. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biophysical investigations of ribonucleotide reductase : Activation and inhibition mechanisms

    Author : Maria Öhrström; Astrid Gräslund; Anders Hofer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is the enzyme responsible for de novo synthesis of deoxyribonucleotides, needed for both synthesis and repair of cellular DNA. The RNRs known so far are divided into three distinct classes; I, II and III. The conventional class I enzyme is composed of two separate subunits. READ MORE

  5. 5. Algorithms for Coherent Diffractive Imaging with X-ray Lasers

    Author : Benedikt J. Daurer; Filipe Maia; Tomas Ekeberg; Janos Hajdu; Richard Neutze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray lasers; coherent diffractive imaging; algorithms; lensless imaging; flash diffractive imaging; flash X-ray imaging; aerosol injection; FEL; XFEL; CXI; CDI; FXI; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Coherent diffractive imaging (CDI) has become a very popular technique over the past two decades. CDI is a "lensless" imaging method which replaces the objective lens of a conventional microscope by a computational image reconstruction procedure. READ MORE
