  1. 6. Specification of the lens and olfactory placodes and dorsoventral patterning of the telencephalon

    Author : My Sjödal; Juha Partanen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : telencephalon; olfactory; lens; BMP; RA; FGF; Wnt; development; placode; gradient; chick; nervous system; dorsoventral; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Abstract : The vertebrate nervous system is a highly complex and intriguing structure with diverse functions. To understand the functional nervous system, we first have to be aware of how it is assembled during development. READ MORE

  2. 7. Role of DARPP-32 in Breast Cancer Cell Signalling and Migration

    Author : Christian Hansen; Molekylär neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell migration; protein phosphatase 1.; DARPP-32; breast cancer; protein kinase A;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. While the prognosis for breast cancer patients without local or distal dissemination is relatively favorable, the prognosis is considerably worse once distal metastasis has been established. READ MORE

  3. 8. Processing of the amyloid precursor protein and its paralogues amyloid precursor-like proteins 1 and 2

    Author : Linda Adlerz; Kerstin Iverfeldt; Richard Cowburn; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which is histopathologically characterised by amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques consist of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) that can form aggregates in the brain. Aβ is generated from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) through proteolytic cleavage. READ MORE

  4. 9. Molecular mechanism(s) underlying neurodegeneration in SCA7 disease : Role of NOX enzymes and oxidative stress

    Author : Abiodun Ajayi; Anna-Lena Ström; Ana Cristina Rego; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurodegeneration; oxidative stress; NOX; metabolism; p53; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG trinucleotide expansion in the SCA7 gene resulting in progressive ataxia and retinal dystrophy. SCA7 belongs to a group of neurodegenerative disorders called polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases, that share the common feature of glutamine tract expansions within otherwise unrelated proteins. Abstract : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG trinucleotide expansion in the SCA7/ATXN7 gene resulting in progressive ataxia and retinal dystrophy. SCA7 belongs to a group of neurodegenerative disorders called polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases, that share the common feature of glutamine tract expansions within otherwise unrelated proteins. READ MORE
