1. Monoamine transporters in female human reproduction
Abstract : The present study explored the gene and protein expression of the monoamine transporters in human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle, in early decidua and in placentas from normal as well as preeclamptic pregnancies using in-situ hybridization, real time-PCR, immunohistochemistry and primary tissue cultures. Four distinguishable patterns were observed in the endometrium over the menstrual cycle: (1) epithelial expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET) mRNA, (2) Stromal co- expression of vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) and plasma membrane monoamine transporter (PMAT) mRNAs with maximal intensity in the proliferative phase; (3) increasing epithelial expression of VMAT2 mRNA with a maximum in the late secretory phase; (4) stromal expression of extra-neuronal monoamine transporter (EMT) mRNA with a peak in the early secretory phase. 2. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development
Abstract : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 3. Development of novel serotonin 5-HT6 and dopamine D2 receptor ligands and MAO A inhibitors - Synthesis, structure-activity relationships and pharmacological characterization
Abstract : It is known since the 1950s that enhancement of the levels of the monoamines dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) in the brain will relieve the symptoms of major depression, and current therapies are still based on this mechanism. However, all available antidepressants today are still suffering from slow onset of therapeutic action, as well as adverse effects and lack of efficacy. READ MORE

4. Synthesis and evaluation of new PET radioloigands for imaging central norepinephrine transporters
Abstract : The noradrenergic (NE), serotonergic (5-HT) and dopaminergic (DA) neurotransmission systems all have specific proteins responsible for the regulation of synaptic concentrations of neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS) and in the periphery. Several reports have shown that the expression of these proteins, the monoamine transporters, within the CNS, may be altered in patients with certain neurodegenerative or neuropsychiatric disorders. 5. Vesicle proteins as markers for neuroendocrine tumors
Abstract : The neuroendocrine (NE) tumours comprise a diversity of tumours which share commonproperties, e.g. the capacity to produce, store and release hormones. A prominent feature ofthe NE phenotype is the production of secretory granules with associated vescicle proteins,e. READ MORE
