  1. 1. Phthalocyanine interfaces : the monolayer region

    Author : Pål Palmgren; Mats Göthelid; Mats Fahlman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phthalocyanine; III-V semiconductor; transition metal oxides; adsorption; self-assembly; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : Organic molecules adsorbed on inorganic substrates are the topics of interest in this thesis. Interfaces of this kind are found in dye sensitized solar cells that convert solar energy to electricity, a promising environmentally friendly energy source which might provide a route to replace fossil fuels. 2. 2. RNA in model lipid membranes - interactions in bulk and at surfaces

    Author : Agnes Michanek; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ssRNA; RNA origami; dsDNA; selfassembly phospholipids; model membranes; monolayer; QCM-D; DSC; Neutron reflectometry; hydrophobic interaction; cationic surfactants; sphingosine; phase behavior;

    Abstract : The work presented in the thesis “RNA in model lipid membranes- interactions in bulk and at surfaces” aims to characterize the interaction between RNA and model membranes with different properties as well as to determine if ssRNA associate with model membranes in different ways. Several techniques have been used to characterize these systems, including quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D), Langmuir film balance in combination with neutron reflectometry and fluorescence microscopy as well as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). 3. 3. Electronic and Geometric Structure of Phthalocyanines on Metals

    Author : Masumeh-Nina Shariati; Maria Novella Piancastelli; Carla Puglia; Kajsa Uvdal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monolayer; multilayer; metal-free phthalocyanine; metal phthalocyanine; interaction; intermolecular; adsorbate-substrate; XPS; XAS; STM; DFT; alkali; metallization;

    Abstract : Adsorption of monolayers and multilayers of metal-free and metal phthalocyanines molecules on metal surfaces has been investigated using complementary microscopic and synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques. It was observed by STM measurements that at monolayer coverage the adsorption direction of the metal-free phthalocyanine molecules with respect to the gold surface vary as a function of temperature, i. Abstract : The Phthalocyanines (Pc’s) are a group of macro-cyclic molecules, widely investigated due to the possibility to use them in a variety of applications. Electronic and geometrical structure investigations of molecular model systems of Pc’s adsorbed on surfaces are important for a deeper understanding of the functionality of different Pc-based devices.
