  1. 16. Occupational exposure during production of wood pellets in Sweden

    Author : Katja Hagström; Kåre Eriksson; Gunilla Lindström; Paul Demers; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational hygiene; wood dust; resin acids; VOC; variability; determinant of exposure; overexposure; dermal exposure; Occupational medicine; Yrkesmedicin; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess workers’ air exposure to wood dust and various chemicals, and to evaluate the variability in exposure and occupational dermal exposure to resin acids during the production of wood pellets in Sweden. Personal air measurements of wood dust, monoterpenes, resin acids and nitrogen dioxide (as a marker of diesel exhaust), accompanied by area measurements of these substances, VOCs and carbon monoxide, were performed at up to ten plants. 2. 17. Chemical signals in interactions between Hylobius abietis and associated bacteria

    Author : Karolin Axelsson; Jenny Lindh; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Gunaratna Kuttuva Rajarao; Benedicte Albrectsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pine weevil; Hylobius; Rahnella; Pseudomonas; bacteria; fungi; metabolites; 2-methoxyphenol; 2-phenylethanol; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L.) is one of the two topmost economically important insect pests in Swedish conifer forests. The damage increase in areas were the silvicultural practice is to use clear cuttings were the insects gather and breed. READ MORE

  3. 18. Light-Induced Routes to Sustainable Biocrudes for Fuels and Lubricant Oils

    Author : Leandro Cid Gomes; Henrik Ottosson; Norbert Hoffmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aviation fuels; triplet sensitization; photoacid; renewable energy; photochemistry; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Fossil-based hydrocarbons are at present the ideal compounds for jet fuels and lubricant oils, so their replacement by novel technologies is not easy. Instead, sustainable routes to hydrocarbons, such as sunlight-driven processes, are desired to reduce the environmental impact by the transport sector. READ MORE

  4. 19. Improving Wood Fuel Pellets for Household Use : Perspectives on Quality, Efficiency and Environment

    Author : Magnus Ståhl; Bengt Månsson; Johan Vinterbäck; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood fuel pellets; sawdust; drying; pellet production; recirculation; quality; efficency; environment; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Bioenergy is one of many contributors to reducing the use of fossil fuels in order to mitigate climate change by decreasing CO2-emissions, and the potential for biofuels are large. The wood fuel pellets are a refined biofuel made of sawdust, which is dried and compressed to achieve improved fuel and transportation properties. READ MORE

  5. 20. Biotransformations of Turpentine Constituents : Oxygenation and Esterification

    Author : Marica Lindmark-Henriksson; KTH; []

    Abstract : This thesis describes methods to obtain value–addedcompounds from TMP-turpentine obtained from the spruce, Piceaabies. The methodology focuses on biotransformations using twoapproaches: an oxygenation approach (i.e. oxygenation ofterpene hydrocarbons by cell cultures) and an esterificationapproach (i. READ MORE
