1. On Techno-economic Assessment of a Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC in AC Transmission Systems
Abstract : The Voltage Source Converter based Multi-Terminal high voltage Direct Current transmission system (VSC-MTDC) is currently considered as an attractive technical option for increased transmission capacity and improved controllability and flexibility of an electric power grid, thanks to its unique performance characteristics, and the possibility of using the extruded XLPE cables. In the planning process of embedding a VSC-MTDC system into an ac transmission grid, one must assess the potential values in terms of improved energy efficiency, i. READ MORE

2. On the robust stability analysis of VSC-HVDC systems
Abstract : This thesis focuses on small signal stability analysis of VSC-HVDC systems, emphasizing the system stability robustness with regard to the connected AC-grid and the distributed parameter DC-grid model respectively. In addition, for strong AC-grid connected systems, analytical eigenvalue expressions are provided to investigate the impact of physical or control parameters on the system stability for both two-terminal and multi-terminal VSC-HVDC systems. 3. Control of a Multi-terminal VSC-HVDC system - A general Control System Structure
Abstract : Environmental impact and security of supply has fuelled a shift in the power mix of power systems today. Traditionally used fossil fuel gives more and more space to the development of renewables in an effort to comply with strict international standards regarding CO2 emissions and secure energy supply. 4. Steady state analysis of HVDC grid with Wind Power Plants
Abstract : The idea of building a multi-terminal, even a meshed HVDC grid in the North Sea, that can inter-connect surrounding nations, is being discussed widely. Such a system is expected to be realised in steps through the interconnection of wind power plants and electricity markets. READ MORE
