  2. 2. Injury Biomechanics in Car-Pedestrian Collisions: Development, Validation and Application of Human-Body Mathematical Models

    Author : Jikuang Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; impact biomechanics; car; mathematical dynamic model; pedestrian; safety countermeasure;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to develop and validate human-body mathematical models which can be used to simulate the dynamic responses of pedestrians in a car impact. The main focus has been on simulations of bumper impact to the lower extremities, since lower extremity injuries most frequently occur in car-pedestrian accidents and result in long-term consequences and high social costs. 3. 3. Simulation of Dynamic Interaction between Train and Turnout

    Author : Elias Kassa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic train–turnout interaction; wheel–rail contact geometry; switches and crossings; multibody dynamics; contact forces;

    Abstract : Dynamic train–track interaction is more complex in railway turnouts (switches & crossings) than on ordinary tangent or curved tracks. Multiple contacts between wheel and rail are common, and severe impact loads with broad frequency contents are induced when the nominal wheel–rail contact conditions are disturbed due to the continuous variation in rail profiles and the discontinuities in the crossing panel. 4. 4. Ghosts and machines : regularized variational methods for interactive simulations of multibodies with dry frictional contacts

    Author : Claude Lacoursière; Bo Kåggström; Ander Klarbring; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Discrete mechanics; Variational method; Contact problems; Impacts; Least action principle; Saddle point problems; Lagrange Multipliers; Constrained systems; Multibody Systems; Numerical regularization; Constraint realization; Constraint stabilization; Dry friction; Differential Algebraic Equations; Nonsmooth problems; Linear Complementarity; Quaternion algebra; Numerical linear algebra; Physics modeling; Interactive simulation; Numerical stability; Rigid body dynamics; Dissipative systems; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik;

    Abstract : A time-discrete formulation of the variational principle of mechanics is used to provide a consistent theoretical framework for the construction and analysis of low order integration methods. These are applied to mechanical systems subject to mixed constraints and dry frictional contacts and impacts---machines. READ MORE

  5. 5. Head Injuries in Car-to-Pedestrian Accidents - Investigation of Head Impact Dynamics, Injury Mechanisms and Countermeasures

    Author : Jianfeng Yao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; accident analysis; head injury; head protection; mathematical simulation; accident reconstruction; injury mechanism; Pedestrian accident;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate head impact dynamics and to establish risk functions for head injuries by mathematical reconstructions of real-world car-to-pedestrian accidents. Furthermore, an attempt was made to develop an approach for the design and evaluation of head-protective devices. READ MORE
