1. Life Cycle Energy Optimisation: A multidisciplinary engineering design optimisation framework for sustainable vehicle development
Abstract : This thesis explores how the systemic-level environmental footprint of light-duty vehicles could be reduced through integrative design using the Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology. This methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle; while complying with a set of functional constraints, thereby avoiding any sub-optimal energy demand shifts between the vehicle's different life cycle phases. 2. Improving trace metal characterisation of ore deposits through multi-modal, multi-scale, and multi-dimensional micro-analysis
Abstract : The variety and amount of metals consumed by human society is ever increasing. Meeting the demand requires exploration for new ore deposits, efficient production of active mines, and improved efficiency in metal recycling. A key element in mining-related enterprises is the improvement of ore characterisation. READ MORE

3. Road Surface and Tyre Interaction : Functional Properties affecting Road Dust Load Dynamics and Storage
Marine propeller optimisation tools for scenario-based design
Abstract : The marine propulsion system is one of the most important components of a ship in order to cover the demanding operating needs of propulsion nowadays and to increase performance in a wide range of operating conditions. Marine propellers are designed with the purpose of matching the hull and machinery system, create the required thrust for the entire operational profile, and fulfil the techno-economical requirements that depend on the decision-making of several stakeholders.
