  1. 1. Solving the correspondence problem in analytical chemistry : Automated methods for alignment and quantification of multiple signals

    Author : Erik Alm; Magnus Åberg; Beata Walczak; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : When applying statistical data analysis techniques to analytical chemical data, all variables must have correspondence over the samples dimension in order for the analysis to generate meaningful results. Peak shifts in NMR and chromatography destroys that correspondence and creates data matrices that have to be aligned before analysis. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Duality of Tactical Thought : A Study of how Swedish Land Forces’ Commanders view Tactics in Irregular Warfare

    Author : Michael Gustafson; Col Pasi Kesseli; Donald Broady; Torsten Björkman; Försvarshögskolan; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Bourdieu; military thought; tactics; Irregular Warfare; Multiple Correspondence Analysis; field theory; sociology; War Studies; Krigsvetenskap; Krigsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This is a sociological study of the views of officers in the Swedish Army and its Amphibious Forces on tactics in Irregular Warfare (IW), in particular, Counterinsurgency (COIN). IW comprises struggles, where the military weaker part uses an indirect approach with smaller units and integrates the civilian and military dimensions in a violence spectrum including subversion, terrorism, Guerrilla Warfare and infantry actions. 3. 3. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction

    Author : Jens Månsson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; system; kontroll; Psychology; Psykologi; numerisk analys; Datalogi; systems; control; numerical analysis; Surface; Contour; Depth; Vision; Binocular; Computer science;

    Abstract : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on bikeability in a metropolitan area using the active commuting route environment scale (ACRES)

    Author : Lina Wahlgren; Peter Schantz; Henrik Gustafsson; Pekka Oja; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; active transport; bicycle commuting; bikeability; multiple linear regression analysis; perception; reliability; route environment; validity; Sports; Idrott; Sports Science; Idrottsvetenskap; Samhällsvetenskap Humaniora;

    Abstract : Background: The Active Commuting Route Environment Scale (ACRES) was developed to study active commuters’ perceptions of their route environments. The overall aims were to assess the measuring properties of the ACRES and study active bicycle commuters’ perceptions of their commuting route environments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Models for analysis of young cast and sprayed concrete subjected to impact-type loads

    Author : Lamis Ahmed; Anders Ansell; Richard Malm; Lennart Elfgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Young concrete · Shotcrete · Rock · Impact-type vibration · Finite element method · Fracture mechanics model · Crack width;

    Abstract : The strive for a time-efficient construction process naturally put focus on the possibility of reducing the time of waiting between stages of construction, thereby minimizing the construction cost. If recently placed concrete, cast or sprayed, is exposed to impact vibrations at an early age while still in the process of hardening, damage that threatens the function of the hard concrete may occur.
