  1. 1. Multivariate Aspects of Phylogenetic Comparative Methods

    Author : Krzysztof Bartoszek; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; General Linear Model; Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process; Multivariate phylogenetic comparative method; Evolutionary model; Adaptation; Optimality; Measurement error; Regression; Adaptation; Major-axis regression; Reduced major-axis regression; Structural equation; Allometry; Phylogenetic inertia; Allometry;

    Abstract : his thesis concerns multivariate phylogenetic comparative methods. We investigate two aspects of them. The first is the bias caused by measurement error in regression studies of comparative data. We calculate the formula for the bias and show how to correct for it. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimal Segmentation of Linear Regression Parameters

    Author : Fredrik Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The problem of detecting multiple changes in the dynamical properties of a measured signal, which we call segmentation, is studied. A Bayesian model-based approach is used. The signal is supposed to be described by a linear regression. The posterior distribution for the change instants is first derived for a quite general signal model. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development and evaluation of methods for control and modelling of multiple-input multiple-output systems

    Author : Fredrik Bengtsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Input-output scaling; Modeling; Fiber length; Tensile Index; Hold-input; Decentralized control; Gramian based measures; Delays; LQG control; TMP; Uncertain data sets; Unreliable communication links; MIMO systems; Control configuration selection; Linear regression; Freeness; Shives; CTMP;

    Abstract : In control, a common type of system is the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, where the same input may affect multiple outputs, or conversely, the same output is affected by multiple inputs. In this thesis two methods for controlling MIMO systems are examined, namely linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control and decentralized control, and some of the difficulties associated with them. 4. 4. Latent variable based computational methods for applications in life sciences : Analysis and integration of omics data sets

    Author : Max Bylesjö; Johan Trygg; Tormod Naes; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemometrics; orthogonal projections to latent structures; OPLS; O2PLS; K-OPLS; kernel-based; non-linear; regression; classification; Populus; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : With the increasing availability of high-throughput systems for parallel monitoring of multiple variables, e.g. levels of large numbers of transcripts in functional genomics experiments, massive amounts of data are being collected even from single experiments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bilinear Regression and Second Order Calibration

    Author : Marie Linder; Pieter Kroonenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemometrics; calibration; multivariate; hyphenated methods; matrix data; bilinear model; least squares; singular value decomposition; generalized rank annihilation; trilinear decomposition; parallel factor analysis; principal components regression; partial least squares; prediction; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Abstract : We consider calibration of second-order (or "hyphenated") instruments for chemical analysis. Many such instruments generate bilinear two-way (matrix) type data for each specimen. The bilinear regression model is to be estimated from a number of specimens of known composition. READ MORE
