1. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing
Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 2. Static-priority Scheduling on Multiprocessors
Abstract : This thesis deals with the problem of scheduling a set of tasks to meet deadlines on a computer with multiple processors. Static-priority scheduling is considered, that is, a task is assigned a priority number that never changes and at every moment the highest-priority tasks that request to be executed are selected for execution. 4. Scheduling Algorithms For Fault-Tolerant Real-Time Systems
Abstract : This thesis deals with the problem of designing efficient fault-tolerant real-time scheduling algorithms for independent periodic tasks on uni- and multiprocessor platforms. The well-known Rate-Monotonic (RM) scheduling algorithm is assumed as it is widely used in many commercial systems due to its simplicity and ease of implementation. READ MORE

5. Memory System Design for Chip-Multiprocessors
Abstract : The continued decrease in transistor size and the increasing delay of wires relative to transistor switching speeds led to the development of chip multiprocessors (CMPs). The introduction of CMPs presents new challenges and trade-offs to computer architects. READ MORE
