  1. 1. Metal film growth on weakly-interacting substrates : Multiscale modeling

    Author : Víctor Gervilla Palomar; Kostas Sarakinos; Georgios Almyras; Davide Giuseppe Sangiovanni; Michael Tringides; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Thin films are nanoscale layers of material used to functionalize surfaces or to serve as building blocks in more complex devices. In recent years, thin metal films have become vital for modern devices within, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. At the Mountains of Modeling : Multiscale Simulations of Desalination by Capacitive Deionization

    Author : Johan Nordstrand; Joydeep Dutta; Oscar Tjernberg; Maarten Biesheuvel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Capacitive Deionization; Desalination; Modeling; Multiscale; Simulation; Avsaltning; Kapacitiv Avjonisering; Modellering; Multiskala; Simulering; Material and Nano Physics; Material- och nanofysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : More than 2 billion people are living in water-scarce areas. Meanwhile, there are enormous amounts of water in the salty oceans. Capacitive deionization (CDI) rises to the challenge with electrochemical cells for desalinating the water. As the CDI field expands, modeling becomes an increasingly important part of the development landscape. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multiscale modeling of dynamic recrystallization

    Author : Ylva Mellbin; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic recrystallization; Crystal plasticity; Texture; Grain size strengthening; Vertex model; Nucleation; Particle pinning; Large deformations; Multiscale modeling; GPGPU;

    Abstract : During thermomechanical processing of metals, changes occur in the microstructure of the material which affect its macroscopic properties. By understanding these transformations in the microstructure, it becomes possible to design the processes in a way which yields the desired properties in the finished product. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computational Multiscale Modeling of Pearlitic Steel

    Author : Erik Lindfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multiscale modeling; homogenization; pearlite; crystal plasticity;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities to describe the mechanical behaviorof a pearlitic steel by using computational homogenization, or multiscale modeling. The proposed model contains three scales: the engineering macroscale, the mesoscale representing the colonies of the pearlite and the microscale containing the individual cementite lamellae and the ferrite matrix. 5. 5. On multiscale modeling of pearlitic steel

    Author : Erik Lindfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cementite; crystal plasticity; Pearlite; multiscale modeling; computational homogenization; digital image correlation; ferrite; in-situ SEM;

    Abstract : By studying pearlitic steels using a scanning electron microscope it can be observed that pearlite is a two-phase material with cementite lamellae embedded in a matrix of ferrite. The cementite is commonly described as being stiff and brittle in comparison to the ferrite which is considered to have a soft and ductile mechanical behavior. READ MORE
