11. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome
Abstract : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 12. Medical knowledge extraction. Applications of data analysis methods
Abstract : In this thesis we explore and discuss some important methods for knowledge extraction from meclical data. This is done in relation to, and for the purpose of design and development of decision support systems, which could be population specific. READ MORE

13. Multivariate non-invasive measurements of skin disorders
Abstract : The present thesis proposes new methods for obtaining objective and accurate diagnoses in modern healthcare. Non-invasive techniques have been used to examine or diagnose three different medical conditions, namely neuropathy among diabetics, radiotherapy induced erythema (skin redness) among breast cancer patients and diagnoses of cutaneous malignant melanoma. 14. Multivariate profiling of metabolites in human disease : Method evaluation and application to prostate cancer
Abstract : There is an ever increasing need of new technologies for identification of molecular markers for early diagnosis of fatal diseases to allow efficient treatment. In addition, there is great value in finding patterns of metabolites, proteins or genes altered in relation to specific disease conditions to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disease development. 15. Surface analytical methods and multivariate data analysis applied to lectin panels
Abstract : In this thesis lectin panels on gold wafers were utilized to investigate sera from different mammals and meat juices from various species of animals. Lectins, which are a group of diverse, natural proteins recognize and bind to different carbohydrate structures present on the sera proteins and on the proteins in the different meat juices. READ MORE
