  1. 11. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    Author : Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 2. 12. Medical knowledge extraction. Applications of data analysis methods

    Author : Ankica Babic; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In this thesis we explore and discuss some important methods for knowledge extraction from meclical data. This is done in relation to, and for the purpose of design and development of decision support systems, which could be population specific. READ MORE

  3. 13. Multivariate non-invasive measurements of skin disorders

    Author : Josefina Nyström; Britta Lindholm-Sethson; Paul SLU Geladi; Lars Noergaard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multivariate Data Analysis; Non-invasive techniques; Clinical studies; Principal Component Analysis; Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis; Wilcoxon Signed Rank Sum Test; Near-InfraRed spectroscopy; Frequency Bio Impedance Analysis of whole body; Laser Doppler Imaging; Digital Colour Photography; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The present thesis proposes new methods for obtaining objective and accurate diagnoses in modern healthcare. Non-invasive techniques have been used to examine or diagnose three different medical conditions, namely neuropathy among diabetics, radiotherapy induced erythema (skin redness) among breast cancer patients and diagnoses of cutaneous malignant melanoma. 4. 14. Multivariate profiling of metabolites in human disease : Method evaluation and application to prostate cancer

    Author : Elin Thysell; Henrik Antti; Janne Lehtiö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolite profiling; metabolomics; predictive metabolomics; mass spectrometry; GC-MS; biomarkers; chemometrics; design of experiments; multivariate data analysis; prostate cancer; bone metastases; plasma; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Abstract : There is an ever increasing need of new technologies for identification of molecular markers for early diagnosis of fatal diseases to allow efficient treatment. In addition, there is great value in finding patterns of metabolites, proteins or genes altered in relation to specific disease conditions to gain a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disease development. 5. 15. Surface analytical methods and multivariate data analysis applied to lectin panels

    Author : Jenny Carlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In this thesis lectin panels on gold wafers were utilized to investigate sera from different mammals and meat juices from various species of animals. Lectins, which are a group of diverse, natural proteins recognize and bind to different carbohydrate structures present on the sera proteins and on the proteins in the different meat juices. READ MORE
