  1. 1. Muscarinic receptors and urinary bladder selectivity : Properties that determine the organ selectivity of compounds

    Author : Staffan Sundquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; bladder; muscarinic; receptor subtypes; smooth muscle; multivariate; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Urinary bladder contraction is mainly mediated by activation of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChR). Muscarinic antagonists are often effective in treatment of unstable bladder. The effectiveness of this treatment has often been limited by side effects as dry mouth. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the autonomic control of the lower urinary tract. Functional and morphological aspects in the normal and the inflamed urinary bladder

    Author : Daniel Giglio; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscarinic receptor; purinoceptor; adrenoceptor; nitric oxide; in vitro; in vivo; cystometry; Western blot; immunohistochemistry; cystitis; cyclophosphamide; urinary bladder; rat;

    Abstract : The regulation of urinary bladder function involves interplay of signalling systems. Disturbances in any of the interactive systems may result in lower tract dysfunction, which is often apparent to the patient by urge to void or by incontinence, irrespectively of the cause to the lower tract syndrome. 3. 3. Effects of ethanol on muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in nerve cells

    Author : Murielle Hellsten Caron; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; nerve cell; SH-SY5Y; NOS; PKC; PLC; Ethanol; mAChR;

    Abstract : This thesis focused on the mechanisms involved in the effects of long-term ethanol treatment on mAChRs and their coupled-signal transduction pathway in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. All 5 subtypes of mAChRs were expressed in these cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Muscarinic M1 and M4 receptor subtypes in normal and pathological conditions in the central nervous system : studies on human and animal tissues using subtype selective ligands

    Author : Ezra Mulugeta; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Snake venoms from different mamba species contain toxins that bind to muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChR). The toxins MT-1 (selective for M1 after iodination), M1 toxin-1 (also known as MT7, selective for MI) and M4 toxin-1 (also known as MT3, selective for M4 receptors) were isolated and used to study M1 and M4 receptor subtypes in normal and pathological conditions. 5. 5. On the cholinergic c-bouton

    Author : Johan Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Acetylcholine; Brainstem; Immunohistochemistry; In situ hybridization; Motoneurons; Muscarinic receptors; Rat; Spinal cord; Ventral horn cells;

    Abstract : The cholinergic C-bouton is a large nerve terminal type exclusively contacting motoneuron cell somata and proximal dendrites. C-boutons are characterized by subsurface cisterns found beneath the postsynaptic membrane, which is an exclusive feature for these nerve terminals. The origin of the C-boutons is unknown. READ MORE
