    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyse the processes surrounding the creation of a scientific visual representation, where, both in the practical creation of this visualisation and in the way it is communicated, those actants which amount to what we call ‘culture’ or cultural value, are enrolled or ignored. Trying to answer if a broader set of non-visual cultural properties can be identified and their influence described, and if history can be visualised without displacing our knowledge of the past in favour of a popular representation thereof, I trace the interaction between client, artist, technology and target audience. 3. 3. The age of museomics : How to get genomic information from museum specimens of Lepidoptera

    Author : Elsa Call; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Museomics; Museum specimens; Lepidoptera; WGS; Target enrichment; Phylogenomics; NGS;

    Abstract : In the age of museomics, the ability to sequence the genetic material from old museum specimens provides an invaluable and often untapped molecular resource. The application of the latest Next-Generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to such specimens allows us to utilise the diverse biobank that is natural history museums. READ MORE

  4. 4. Population History and Non-invasive Monitoring : Use of low copy number DNA in Conservation Genetics

    Author : Øystein Flagstad; Ettore Randi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; genetic tagging; immigration; loss of genetic variability; non-invasive molecular techniques; population decline; Swayne’s hartebeest; wolf; wolverine; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : Conservation genetics research is increasingly becoming an integrated part of the management of small and endangered populations. In this thesis I developed tools for genetic analysis of low copy number sources of DNA, such as old teeth from museum specimens as well as field-collected faeces and urine. READ MORE
