  1. 1. Treatment of Textile Wastewater by Combining Biological Processes and Advanced Oxidation

    Author : Marisa Punzi; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Azo dye; textile wastewater; biological treatment; biofilm; microbial community; DGGE; green algae; photo-Fenton; ozone; toxicity; mutagenicity; LCA; cost analysis;

    Abstract : Treatment of textile wastewater is challenging because the water contains toxic compounds that have low biodegradability. Dyes, detergents, surfactants, biocides and more are used to improve the textile process and to make the clothes resistant to physical, chemical and biological agents. READ MORE

  2. 2. A step forward in using QSARs for regulatory hazard and exposure assessment of chemicals

    Author : Aleksandra Rybacka; Patrik Andersson; Christina Rudén; Anna Linusson; Uko Maran; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; QSAR; in silico; non-testing tools; risk assessment; exposure assessment; hazard assessment; carcinogenicity; mutagenicity; reproductive toxicity; endocrine disruption; estrogen; androgen; transthyretin; sorption; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; Computer Science; datalogi; Toxicology; toxikologi; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : According to the REACH regulation chemicals produced or imported to the European Union need to be assessed to manage the risk of potential hazard to human health and the environment. An increasing number of chemicals in commerce prompts the need for utilizing faster and cheaper alternative methods for this assessment, such as quantitative structure-activity or property relationships (QSARs or QSPRs). 5. 5. Acute lung injury : incidence and predictors of outcome with special reference to inhaled nitric oxide

    Author : Owe Luhr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Respiratory distress syndrome; Adult; -drug-therapy; -mortality; Treatment; -outcome; Nitric oxide; therapeutic-use; administration-and-dosage; -adverse effects; Mutagenicity; tests; Chromosome aberrations; Risk factors; Logistic models; Prospective studies.;

    Abstract : This work started out as a critical examination of the initial clinical experiences with inhalation of nitric oxide (INO) to patients with acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in Scandinavia 1991-1994. During this examination, we found that epidemiological data and prognostic factors were lacking in Scandinavia for these patient groups, making it difficult to evaluate new therapies. READ MORE
