11. Expression of biomarkers by peripheral nerve fibres in human masseter muscle
Abstract : Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) often manifest as masticatory muscle pain (myalgia). Nerve growth factor (NGF) and glutamate injection into healthy human masseter muscle induced signs and symptoms mimicking those of TMD myalgia and have therefore been suggested as pain models to study the neurobiological mechanisms of this type of chronic pain conditions. 12. Biomarkers in chronic and experimental human muscle pain
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to improve the knowledge ofthe peripheral mechanisms that may participate in the underlying pathophysiology of chronic temporomandibular disorders (TMD) myalgia i.e. pain that is experienced locally in the jaw muscles and has myofascial trigger points. 13. Significance of serotonin for pain, allodynia, and hyperalgesia in the human masseter muscle
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the hypothesis that serotonin (5-HT) is involved in the pathophysiology of human chronic muscle pain. The thesis comprises a clinical and a human experimental part. READ MORE

15. Jaw exercises in the treatment of masticatory myofascial pain : efficacy, patients’ views and dentists’ experiences
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to gain better knowledge concerning different aspects of jaw exercises in the treatment of masticatory myofascial pain. Special emphasis was directed towards efficacy and cost-effectiveness of jaw exercises as well as patients’ views and dentists’ experiences. READ MORE
