1. Studies of Electrocatalytic Reactions of NADH at Mediator Modified Electrodes and of H2O2 at Peroxidase Modified Electrodes
Abstract : This thesis addresses: (1) studies of direct and mediated electron transfer and kinetics of peroxidases on electrodes and the development of amperometric peroxidase-based biosenors, (2) electrochemical and kinetic studies of NADH oxidation at mediator modified electrodes. The direct and mediated electron transfer of horseradish and tobacco peroxidase were investigated on graphite electrodes by using wall-jet electrode methodology. READ MORE

2. Plant type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases : Structure, regulation and evolution of NDB proteins
Abstract : In living organisms, respiration is a biological process degrading different carbon substrates, consuming O2, and releasing the carbon as CO2. Plants have several alternative enzymes that are involved in the respiratory processes, as compared to animals. READ MORE

3. Application of Synthetic Biology for Biopolymer Production using Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : Plastics are versatile, cheap and durable materials that are omnipresent in modern society. Since most of them are derived from crude oil and are not biodegradable, their production leads to the depletion of fossil fuels and the accumulation of enormous amounts of plastic waste that pollutes ecosystems worldwide. 4. Biochemical Control Aspects in Lignin Polymerization
Abstract : Lignins are produced by all vascular plants and they represent one of the most abundant groups of biopolymers in nature. Lignin chemistry research, which has been of great importance for the progress of pulping technologies, has been plagued by the difficulties of its isolation and characterization. READ MORE

5. Functional studies of the TDH and GPD gene-products in the glycolytic flux and glycerol metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the physiology and control of the glycolysis and glycerol metabolism in the yeast Sacchromyces cerevisiae. The study is based on the relation ship between the first two reactions around the branch-point of the upper and lower part of glycolysis and the glycerol pathway. READ MORE
