21. The Membrane-Spanning Domain of Complex I Investigated with Fusion Protein Techniques
Abstract : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase, or complex I, is a large, complex and poorly understood bioenergetic enzyme in the respiratory chain of living organisms. The enzyme has a conserved core structure, comprising fourteen protein subunits: Seven subunits protrude from the membrane and contain a flavin prosthetic group and eight iron-sulfur clusters that guide electrons from the oxidation of NADH towards the quinone binding site(s). 22. The evolution of respiratory chain complex I from smaller functional modules
Abstract : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase, or complex I, is a large membrane bound enzyme in the respiratory chain of living organisms, that has evolved from the combination of smaller functional building blocks. The enzyme has a conserved core structure, comprising 14 protein subunits: Seven subunits protrude from the membrane and contain a flavin and eight iron-sulfur clusters. READ MORE

23. Labeling, tagging and charging - Long standing issues in bioenergetics addressed with novel techniques
Abstract : Understanding the molecular details of bioenergetic processes is fundamentally important. Defects in the mitochondrial energy metabolism can lead to untimely apoptosis and thus cause serious degenerative human diseases. READ MORE

24. Palladium(0)-Catalysed Carbonylative Multicomponent Reactions : Synthesis of Heterocycles and the Application of Quinolinyl Pyrimidines as Enzyme Inhibitors
Abstract : Palladium-catalysed carbonylative multicomponent reactions have proven useful for the synthesis of structurally diverse compounds. Carbon monoxide serves as an atom-efficient, one-carbon building block, which allows for further structural elaboration of the carbonyl compound. READ MORE

25. On the antiporter-like subunits of respiratory chain Complex I - implications for the evolution and coupling mechanism of the NADH:quinone oxidoreductase enzyme complex
Abstract : Complex I or NADH:quinone oxidoreductase is the largest enzyme complex, but the least understood energy coupling site in the respiratory chain of mitochondria and bacteria. No high-resolution structural information exists for this enzyme and the molecular mechanism that couples electron transfer and proton pumping is not understood. READ MORE
