  1. 21. Mille-feuille Filter : A Non-woven Nano-cellulose Based Virus Removal Filter for Bioprocessing

    Author : Simon Gustafsson; Albert Mihranyan; Jonas Lindh; Kurt Brorson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; virus filtration; mille-feuille; downstream; nanocellulose; protein throughput; protein recovery; LRV; MVM; Cladophora; non-woven filter;

    Abstract : Virus removal filters, produced from synthetic surface-modified polymers or regenerated cellulose by phase inversion, are vital to the production of therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies and plasma proteins. Use of these filters is also one of the most expensive purification steps in the downstream processing of proteins due to high sales price and being limited to a single use. READ MORE

  2. 22. There Is an Alloy at the End of the Rainbow: Structure and Optical Properties From Bulk to Nano

    Author : Magnus Rahm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermodynamics; optical properties; dielectric functions; hydrides; alloy cluster expansions; alloys; nanoalloys;

    Abstract : Mixing different chemical species and decreasing dimensions to the nanoscale are two powerful approaches for improving materials. In both cases new properties emerge, and structure, composition, and chemical ordering can be tuned to tailor materials for specific purposes. READ MORE

    Abstract : Light is the primary source of energy on our planet and has been a significant driver in the evolution of human society and technology. Light finds applications in two-dimensional (2D) photolithography and three-dimensional (3D) printing, where a pattern is transferred to a material of interest by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, and in laser scribing and cutting, where high power lasers are used to pattern the surface of objects or cut through the bulk of the material of interest. 4. 24. Ordered arrays of low-dimensional Au and Pd : synthesis and in situ observations

    Author : Giuseppe Abbondanza; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanowires NWs ; nanorods; nanoparticles; Au; Pd; Al; Al2O3; anodization; nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide; powder diffraction; x-ray diffraction; x-ray scattering; SAXS; WAXS; grazing-incidence; two-dimensional surface optical reflectance;

    Abstract : Electrodeposition of metals in templates of nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide (NP-AAO) is a versatile way of fabricating ordered arrays of metal nanowires. Thanks to the self-arranged long-range hexagonal order of the pores, electrodeposition in NP-AAO is an easily scalable bottom-up synthesis route and an attractive alternative to traditional top-down fabrication methods such as electron beam lithography. 5. 25. Tailoring the magnetic order in mesoscopic spin systems

    Author : Henry Stopfel; Vassilios Kapaklis; Hjörvarsson Björgvin; Unnar Arnalds; John Cumings; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; artificial spin ice; magnetic nano-structures; mesoscopic spin systems; mesospins; model systems; Shakti; Saint George; interaction modifier; engineering of energy-landscape; multiple energy-scales; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Mesoscopic spin systems can be designed and fabricated using modern nano-fabrication techniques. These systems can contain large numbers of patterned ferromagnetic elements, for which the shape will generally determine their effective mesospin dimensionality. READ MORE
