2. Groundless knowledge : a Humean solution to the problem of skepticism
Abstract : The aim of the present study is to develop a solution to the problem of skepticism about the external world ("skepticism", for short), inspired primarily by Hume's "skeptical solution" to the problem of skepticism about induction, but also by epistemological externalism and Wittgenstein's discussion of skeptical doubts in On Certainty. The author accepts certain elements in P. READ MORE

3. Methods for Asymmetric Olefination Reactions; Development and Application to Natural Product Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the development and application of methods for asymmetric olefinations, in particular Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reactions, in the synthesis of certain natural products. Relying on asymmetric HWE reactions to access key building blocks, two natu-ral products, pyranicin and pyragonicin, were synthesized from common late intermediates. READ MORE

4. Studying neutron-induced fission at IGISOL-4 : From neutron source to yield measurements and model comparisons
Abstract : Fission yields represent the probability of producing a certain nuclide in a fission event, and are important observables for fission research. For applications, accurate knowledge of the yields is fundamental at all stages of the fuel cycle of nuclear reactors, e.g., for reactivity calculations, or to estimate (spent) fuel inventory. 5. Towards better understanding of the flow inside industrial processes: a CFD study
Abstract : Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a method to numerically pre- dict flow patterns. In this thesis the method is used to predict the flow in a hydrochloric acid regeneration plant located at SSAB EMEA in Borl ̈ange and to investigate the flow in a burner region of a rotary kiln at LKAB in Kiruna.
