6. Impact of epidemiologically identified mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals on metabolic programming
Abstract : We are ubiquitously exposed to a plethora of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), i.e. substances that alter the function(s) of the endocrine system. While ample evidence show individual EDC's influence on developmental processes resulting in adverse health outcomes, less is known about the effects of human-relevant EDC mixtures exposure. 7. Towards improved drinking water safety : the use of in vitro bioassays to optimize treatment processes and assess chemical hazards
Abstract : Drinking water safety has been primarily dependent on the monitoring of only a limited number of individual chemicals via chemical analysis, which is insufficient to characterize the myriad of hazardous chemicals present in water. Effect-based methods (EBMs) using in vitro bioassays are useful in that they evaluate biological effects from all the known and unknown chemicals in the water and draw on toxicological principles. 8. Proteomics in biomarker research : Insights into the effects of aging and environment on biological systems
Abstract : Proteomics is the global analysis of proteins that covers a broad range of technologies aimed at determining the identity and quantity of proteins expressed in the cell, their three-dimensional structure and interaction partners. In contrast to genome, proteome reflects more accurately on the dynamic state of the cell, tissue, or an organism. READ MORE

9. Exposure to xenobiotic chemicals disrupts metabolism, rhythmicity and cell proliferation in Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract : Most species are constantly exposed to xenobiotic chemicals through multiple routes. Among all categories of xenobiotics, phthalates and bisphenols are two of the most widely used plasticizers and can be found in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials, medical devices and even drinking water. 10. Statistical analysis of gene expression data
Abstract : Microarray technology has become one of the most important tools for genome-wide mRNA measurements. The technique has been successfully applied to many areas in modern biology including cancer research, identification of drug targets, and categorization of genes involved in the cell cycle. READ MORE
