  1. 21. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)

    Author : Winnie Nassazzi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are anthropogenic compounds recognised for their persistence, mobility and potential toxicity. This thesis examines the efficacy of phytoremediation as a potential technique for managing PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. READ MORE

  2. 22. Methodology for evaluation of hazards from solid waste and landfill-generated leachate

    Author : Britt-Marie Svensson; Lennart Mathiasson; Lennart Mårtensson; Ann-Sofi Rehnstam-Holm; Kenneth M. Persson; Högskolan Kristianstad; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical protocol; organic pollutants; toxicity test; landfill leachate; leachate treatment; leaching test; waste acceptance criteria; Chemistry; Kemi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; leaching test; waste acceptance criteria.;

    Abstract : A methodology based on an analytical protocol for evaluation of hazards from landfill leachate and solid waste is described. A dynamic analytical protocol, the LAQUA protocol, including measurements of inorganic and water-quality parameters, polar and non-polar organic marker compounds, and toxicity, was constructed. Author : Yuanmo Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantification; glucose; choline oxidase; gold nanoparticles; enzyme monolayer; enzymatic activity; Biosensor; adsorption; brain slice; enzyme stability; acetylcholine esterase; artificial cell; exocytosis; glucose oxidase; deformation; glutamate; glutamate oxidase; acetylcholine; amperometry;

    Abstract : Neuronal communication is the basis for all our brain function and relies on regulated exocytosis, a cell function that involves release of quantal amounts of neurotransmitters into the gap space between interconnected neurons to serve as chemical signals. To study exocytosis, which is a fast process that occurs on the timescale of sub-milliseconds to milliseconds, a toolbox of analytical methods has been developed where the electrochemical based techniques offer quantitative and sufficient high temporal recording speed. 5. 25. Lignin-carbohydrate complexes: Model compounds synthesis

    Author : Filip Nylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignin-carbohydrate complex; lignin model compounds; lignocellulose;

    Abstract : In lignocellulose there is a recalcitrant interaction by covalent and non-covalent bonds called the lignin-carbohydrate complex. This interaction has been the subject of studies trying to unveil its chemical structure, to understand the mechanims involved in its formation and to determine its influence on practical applications such as the process of turning biomass into ethanol.
