  1. 21. Protein Folding, Binding and Evolution : PDZ domains and paralemmins as model systems

    Author : Greta Hultqvist; Per Jemth; Ruth Nussinov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein folding; evolution; binding; allostery; Paralemmin; PDZ domain;

    Abstract : Proteins present at the synapse need to be multitasking in order to perform all vital functions in this limited space. In this thesis I have analyzed the function and evolution of such proteins, focusing on the PDZ domain and the paralemmin family. The PDZ domains bind to a wide variety of interaction partners. 2. 22. Signalling mechanisms and epigenetic regulation of seed development in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Author : Rita Batista; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In flowering plants, seed development starts with a double fertilisation event, leading to the formation of the embryo and the endosperm. Though only the embryo contributes to the next generation, control of endosperm proliferation, as well as the timing of its cellularisation are crucial for embryo viability. READ MORE

  3. 23. The exosome and the maintenance of genome integrity

    Author : Judit Domingo Prim; Neus Visa; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The RNA exosome acts on different RNA substrates and plays important roles in RNA metabolism. The fact that short non-coding RNAs are involved in the DNA damage response led us to investigate whether the exosome plays a role in DNA repair. READ MORE

  4. 24. Molecular characterization of the Drosophila responses towards nematodes

    Author : Md. Badrul Arefin; Ulrich Theopold; Ioannis Eleftherianos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; nematodes; infection; danger situations; immune response; coagulation; apoptosis; nitric oxide; leukemia; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : A sophisticated evolutionary conserved innate immune system has evolved in insects to fight pathogens and to restrict damage in harmful (danger) situations including cancer. A significant amount of knowledge about different infection models in Drosophila has been generated in past decades, which revealed functional resemblances and implications for vertebrate systems. 5. 25. Epigenomic landscape of Arabidopsis thaliana

    Author : Trejo Minerva; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The basal unit of information storage in the cell is at the level of the DNA sequence. Dynamic packaging of DNA into chromatin allows additional regulatory layers. Two pairs of each histones H3, H4, H2A and H2B constitute an octamer around which about 146 base pairs of DNA are wrapped to build the basic unit of chromatin: the nucleosome. READ MORE
