  1. 6. Phenomenology of Inert Scalar and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

    Author : Erik Lundström; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Michel Tytgat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; inert scalars; supersymmetry; indirect detection; accelerator searches; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : While the dark matter has so far only revealed itself through the gravitational influence it exerts on its surroundings, there are good reasons to believe it is made up by WIMPs – a hypothetical class of heavy elementary particles not encompassed by the Standard Model of particle physics. The Inert Doublet Model constitutes a simple extension of the Standard Model Higgs sector. READ MORE

  2. 7. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene

    Author : Martin Evaldsson; Igor Zozoulenko; Vidar Gudmundsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic transport; Spin related phenomena; Quantum dots; Quantum wires; Two-dimensional electron gas; 2DEG; Graphene; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. READ MORE

  3. 8. Transmission Electron Microscopy for Characterization of Structures, Interfaces and Magnetic Moments in Magnetic Thin Films and Multilayers

    Author : Hans Lidbaum; Klaus Leifer; Peter Svedlindh; Josef Zweck; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Structural characterization is essential for the understanding of the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. In this thesis, both crystalline and amorphous thin films and multilayers were analyzed utilizing transmission electron microscopy (TEM). READ MORE

  4. 9. Topological excitations in field theory models of superconductivity and magnetism

    Author : Philipp Rybakov; Egor Babaev; Maxim Mostovoy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics; Teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Topological excitations are subjects of intensive studies in physics and mathematics. In solid-state and soft matter physics, topological excitations can largely determine the thermodynamic and electromagnetic properties of materials, while in high energy physics they were theorized as particles. 5. 10. Theoretical studies of X-ray induced nuclear dynamics

    Author : Ivaylo Minkov; Hans Ågren; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical physics; Teoretisk fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The present thesis is a theoretical study of several x-ray spectroscopies { x-ray absorption, xray photoelectron, radiative and non-radiative resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main focus point is investigating the role of the nuclear dynamics in molecules (naphthalene, biphenyl, the water dimer, HCl) on these spectra. READ MORE
