  1. 1. Palaeoenvironmental changes in the northern boreal zone of Finland: local versus regional drivers

    Author : Shyhrete Shala; Karin H. Helmens; Christian Bigler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeolimnology; Palaeoecology; Biological assemblages; Sediment geochemistry; Regional drivers; Local drivers; Quantitative temperature reconstructions; Transfer-functions; Holocene; MIS 5d-c; Northern boreal zone; NE Finland; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Abstract : Multiple proxies derived from the Lake Loitsana sediment sequence (NE Finland) are employed to determine the timing of deglaciation, characterise an early Holocene proglacial lake stage and reconstruct Holocene lake development. Local-scale processes causing shifts in biological assemblages are identified and the most likely Holocene mean July air temperature (Tjul) development is assessed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic and antigenic characterisation of Puumala virus in voles and man

    Author : Jan Hörling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The present study has focused on the genetic and antigenic characteristics of Puumala (PUU) virus, the causative agent of nephropathia epidemica (NE). An assay for detection of neutralising antibodies to PUU virus was developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human antibody responses to hantavirus recombinant proteins & development of diagnostic methods

    Author : Fredrik Elgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Puumala virus; hantavirus infections; recombinant proteins; capsid; humoral immunity; immunoassay;

    Abstract : Rodent-borne hantaviruses (family Bunyaviridae) cause two distinct human infections; hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). HFRS is a common viral zoonosis, characterized by fever, renal dysfunction and hemostatic imbalance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Magnetic anisotropy and paleomagnetism of precambrian rocks in the Fennoscandian shield

    Author : Håkan Johannes Mattsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geofysik; Applied Geophysics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents three applications of the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) technique, dealing with tectonic and magmatic flow fabrics of Proterozoic igneous rocks in the central and northern parts of the Fennoscandian Shield. Paleomagnetic measurements were performed in attempts to put the different rock units into a geological and plate tectonic context. READ MORE
