  1. 1. Genetic predisposition to salt sensitivity and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Jonas Dahlberg; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NEDD4L; SGK-1; CVD; ischemic stroke; genetics; CVD deaths; myopcardial infarction;

    Abstract : Abstract The average amount of salt ingested is about 10 grams daily compared to less than one gram in pre-historic life. Salt, althought somewhat debated, is considered a risk factor for elevated blood pressure and end organ damage beyond the blood pressure effect. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic Factors and Dietary Salt Intake as Determinants of Blood Pressure and Risk of Primary Hypertension

    Author : Fredrik Wowern; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood Pressure; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Genetics; Salt; Hypertension;

    Abstract : Blood pressure (BP) and development of hypertension (HT) are determined by both genetic and environmental factors. The specific genetic etiology of these two entities has remained enigmatic despite large efforts. In addition, daily salt intake seems to predispose for certain individuals to develop HT. READ MORE

  3. 3. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death.
