  1. 1. The neutron-induced fission cross section of 233Pa : and the quest for clean and safe nuclear energy

    Author : Fredrik Tovesson; Andreas Oberstedt; Dietrich Hilscher; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; fission; cross section; Pa-233; U-233; fysik; Physics; Fysik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Neutron-induced fission of 233Pa has been investigated between 1.0 and 8.5 MeV, and the reaction cross section was determined. Due to the short half-life of 233Pa for β-decay, fission events from the daughter product 233U affect the analysis of the protactinium experiment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Octupole collectivity and E1 moments in neutron rich nuclei

    Author : Axel Lindroth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Applied Nuclear Physics; tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Spectroscopy of short-lived fission and reaction products has allowed a detailed structural study of neutron rich nuclei just above above 132Sn and 208Pb, respectively. The low-energy structures of 140Xe and 143Ba as well as a handful of neutron rich nuclei in the actinide region were examined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mixed Beam Dosimetry - From Reactor Core to BNCT Patient

    Author : Per Munck af Rosenschöld; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BNCT; dosimetry; radiotherapy; mixed beam; quality assurance; in vivo dosimetry; Monte Carlo; ionization chamber; foil activation; MCNP; beam quality correction factor; photon transmission.; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; radiobiologi; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Radiopharmaceutical technology;

    Abstract : Accurate radiation dosimetry is of paramount importance in order to ensure safe delivery of radiotherapy, and for the possibility of meaningful evaluation of clinical trials, as the radiation absorbed dose is correlated to tissue response. The aim of the studies described in this thesis was to investigate and devise novel approaches to mixed beam dosimetry in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). READ MORE

  4. 4. Antiparticle identification studies for the PAMELA satellite experiment

    Author : Jens Lund; Mark Pearce; Tuneyoshi Kamae; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Space technology; PAMEL; satellites; astroparticle physics; antiparticles; calorimeters; Rymdteknik; Space engineering; Rymdteknik;

    Abstract : The PAMELA satellite experiment will soon be launched and during its 3 year mission perform measurement of charged particle fluxes in the cosmic radiation. PAMELA is specifically designed to identify antiprotons and positrons in the vast background of other charged particles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novelty and change detection radiation physics experiments

    Author : Abbas Jabor; Thomas Lindblad; Örjan Skeppstedt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the detection and analysis of low-level natural and induced radioactivity. Using high energy-resolution Ge detectors in low-level counting areas airborne radioactivity’s like Be-7 and Cs-137 have been investigated. The experimental facilities and techniques are described in some detail. READ MORE
