  1. 6. Variability and feedbacks in the middle atmosphere

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University

    Author : Maartje Kuilman; Stockholms universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Middle atmosphere dynamics; noctilucent clouds; solar cycle effects; climate feedbacks; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Abstract : The importance of the middle atmosphere for the weather and climate on Earth is increasingly realized. Variability and feedback processes in the middle atmosphere need to be better understood and form the subject of this thesis. READ MORE

  3. 8. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Emil Hällstig; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; spatial light modulator; liquid crystal; beam steering; tracking; phase modulation; fringing field; director distribution; finite-difference time-domain; polarization; temporal properties; Fysik; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik;

    Abstract : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. READ MORE

  4. 9. Investigation of Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes in Northern Scandinavia

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysik

    Author : Victoria Barabash; Umeå universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes; middle atmospheric dynamics; ionospheric disturbances; solar radiation; aerosol; MST radar; planetary waves; noctilucent clouds; Fysik; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik; rymdfysik; Space Physics;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis deals with phenomena which are closely related to the unique thermal structure of the polar summer mesosphere, namely Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes (PMSE). PMSE are strong radar echoes commonly observed by VHF MST radars from thin layers in the 80-90 km altitude interval at high latitudes during summer. READ MORE

  5. 10. Effects of nicotine on mesolimbocortical dopaminergic neurotransmission : A pharmacological study in the rat

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, false

    Author : Magnus Nisell; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nicotine; dopamine; ventral tegmental area; accumbens; prefrontal cortex; c-fos; drug-dependence; sensitization; mecamylamine; D; receptors; SCH 23390;

    Abstract : Tobacco-smoking represents a form of drug addiction to nicotine (NlC) and thereinforcing and dependence-producing properties of NIC depend largely on centraldopamine (DA) neurons, located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projectingmainly to the nucleus accumbens (NAc; mesolimbic DA system) and the medial prefrontalcortex (PFC; mesocortical DA system). Generally, the mesolimbic DA system plays apivotal role in the reinforcing effects of natural rewards as well as of drugs ofabuse. READ MORE
