  1. 1. Regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and mRNA degradation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Yang Zhou; Marcus Johansson; Anders Byström; Marie Öhman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMD; RES complex; pre-mRNA splicing; magnesium homeostasis;

    Abstract : Messenger RNAs are transcribed and co-transcriptionally processed in the nucleus, and transported to the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, mRNAs serve as the template for protein synthesis and are eventually degraded. The removal of intron sequences from a precursor mRNA is termed splicing and is carried out by the dynamic spliceosome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Simplified Nonsense: New Methods for Interrogating NMD

    Author : Hanna Alalam; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mRNA degradation; metabolic labeling; nonsense-mediated decay; Major protease; SARS-CoV-2;

    Abstract : Nonsense mediated decay (NMD) is a pathway that regulates RNA turnover. Since its discovery, this pathway has been implicated in a variety of cellular processes ranging from differentiation to the restriction of viral replication. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects on wall properties of the brachial artery in man : with special reference to SLE and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

    Author : Niclas Bjarnegård; Toste Länne; Reinhard Volkmann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arterial wall; atherosclerotic; brachial artery BA ; type 1 diabetes; ulse wave velocity PWV ; pulse wave analysis PWA ; intima-media thickness IMT ; nitrate mediated dilatation NMD ; Diabetology; Diabetologi;

    Abstract : The mechanical properties of the arterial wall are of great importance for blood pressure regulation and cardiac load. With increasing age, large arteries are affected by increased wall stiffness. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on ventilatory function in chronic neuromuscular disorders

    Author : Jan Weinberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ventilatory dysfunction; neuromuscular disorders; diaphragm; electromyogram; power spectrum; blood gas; ventilatory mechanics; sleep; polysomnography;

    Abstract : Ventilatory dysfunction is common in neuromuscular disorders (NMD). The present studies aimed at evaluating and developing methods for diagnosis of ventilatory function in NMD. Methods included were diaphragmatic EMG (EMGdi), blood gas monitoring assessed at rest and during exercise and nocturnal respiratory and sleep parameters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Socioeconomic differences in drug use among older people : trends, polypharmacy, quality and new drugs

    Author : Syed Imran Haider; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacoepidemiology; drug utilization; polypharmacy; inappropriate drug use; drug-drug interactions; new drugs; comorbidity; registers; cross-sectional; population-based; elderly; equity; socioeconomic position; education; occupation; income;

    Abstract : Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate drug use (IDU) is a major patient safety and public health concern in the elderly, resulting in an increased likelihood of adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions (DDI), hospitalization, poor quality of life and mortality. This doctoral thesis investigated the complex relationship between drug use and socioeconomic position (SEP) and characterized the drug use, quality of prescribing, development of drug use over time, and use of new drugs in the elderly.
