  1. 1. Helicobacter pylori infection in a mouse model: Development, optimization and inhibitory effects of antioxidants

    Author : Xin Wang; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; mice; Helicobacter pylori; gastritis; lymphoma; antioxidant; diet; Th1 and Th2; cytokines; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori is a human pathogen strongly associated with chronic type B gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer and MALT lymphoma. Our aims were to establish a mouse model of H. pylori infection, to study pathogenesis of gastritis and gastric cancer and to investigate new treatment strategies in this model. READ MORE

  2. 2. Semicarbazide-sensitive Amine Oxidase (SSAO) – Regulation and Involvement in Blood Vessel Damage with Special Regard to Diabetes : A Study on Mice Overexpressing Human SSAO

    Abstract : Semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO, EC 1.4.3.6) belongs to a family of copper-containing amine oxidases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Islet amyloid polypeptide : Perspectives on the storage and plasma concentration of islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) in rodent models of obesity and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and aspects of amyloidogenesis andelimination of IAPP

    Author : Arnold Leckström; Sture Falkmer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The present study was aimed to investigate plasma concentrations and pancreatic storage of IAPP in relation to that of insulin in four different animal models with hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, obesity and/or NIDDM. The NMRI mice fed a high-fat diet for six months, the Psammomys on high-energy (HE) diet and the genetically obese (ob/ob) mice studied for one year all revealed significantly elevated plasma IAPP concentrations, while the IAPP levels were unchanged in the spontaneously diabetic GK rats during a glucose tolerance test. 4. 4. CFTR in pancreatic islets

    Author : Anna Edlund; Diabetes - öcellsexocytos; []
    Keywords : CFTR; CF; CFRD; Cystic fibrosis; Cystisk fibros; Diabetes; Insulin; Beta cell; Glukagon; Glucagon; Alpha cell; Alfa-cell; Anoctamin; ANO1; ANO;

    Abstract : AbstractCystic fibrosis (CF) is caused by mutations in the anion channel and protein regulator CFTR. The most common co-morbidity in CF is CF-related diabetes (CFRD) affecting ~50% of adult patients. The etiopathology of CFRD is largely unknown but the destruction of the exocrine pancreas is thought to contribute. READ MORE

  5. 5. Identification of abnormally expressed genes in skeletal muscle contributing to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

    Author : Xudong Huang; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; gene expression; high-fat intake; RT-PCR; mitochondrial genes; cathepsin L; Shc; IRS-2; IRS-1; GS; cDNA differential display; Insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The metabolic defects of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes can result from changes in gene expression and protein functions due to genetic and environmental influences. The aim of this study was to identify abnormally expressed genes associated with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, and further to test whether possible defects are inherited or acquired.
