  1. 1. Phase Transitions in Large Oscillator Lattices

    Author : Per Östborn; Antikens kultur och samhällsliv; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; thermodynamics; statistical physics; phase transition; limit cycle oscillator; frequency entrainment; synchronization; sinus node; classical mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; arrhythmia; gravitation; quantum mechanics; relativity; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; statistisk fysik; termodynamik; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Östborn;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with large networks of limit cycle oscillators. A limit cycle oscillator is a dynamical system that has a periodic attractor in phase space, and is defined in continuous time. To each such oscillator one can associate a natural frequency. READ MORE

  2. 2. Clinical and experimental studies on oxidized fragrance terpenes as contact allergens

    Author : Johanna Bråred Christensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : autoxidation; contact allergy; limonene; linalool; colophonium; limonene-1-hydroperoxide; limonene-2-hydroperoxide; 15-hydroperoxyabietic acid; 15-HPA; terpenes; local lymph node assay; LLNA; Freunds complete adjuvant test; FCAT; patch testing; laser Doppler imaging; skin irritation; visual reading;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims to improve the possibilities for diagnosing contact allergy to oxidized limonene and linalool and to, in patients, study contact allergy from structurally closely related hydroperoxides with regard to their specificity, potency and cross-reactivity. The fragrance terpenes limonene (from citrus oil) and linalool (from lavender oil) are widely used in household and industrial products. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploration of Supraventricular Conduction with respect to Atrial Fibrillation. Methodological Aspects on Selected Techniques

    Author : Jonas Carlson; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Signal processing; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Correlation Function Analysis; Transformation; Modeling; P wave Morphology; Signal; Conduction; Human; Atrial Fibrillation; Signalbehandling; Electrocardiography;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia that demands medical attention. Computer-based detailed analysis of cardiac electrical signals from healthy subjects and patients with a history of atrial fibrillation has become an important tool in the further clarification of this disease. 4. 4. Genetic and morphological studies of tumor heterogeneity, multifocality and outcome in locally advanced prostate cancer

    Author : Anna Kristiansen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Patients with locally advanced disease have a higher risk of relapse after treatment with curative intent. Examples of risk factors are seminal vesicle invasion (SVI) and lymph node metastases. However, not all patients with adverse pathology experience recurrence. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of Male Breast Cancer : From Molecule to Clinical Outcome

    Author : Cecilia Nilsson; Marie-Louise Fjällskog; Leif Bergkvist; Thomas Hatschek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; male breast cancer; immunohistochemistry; prognostic; cyclins; gene expression; genomic profiling; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate different aspects of male breast cancer (MBC), and to compare these with findings in female breast cancer (FBC). In paper I, a population–based study was performed to investigate possible differences in treatment and outcome between MBC and FBC patients. READ MORE
