1. NOx Storage and Reduction Catalysts. Reduction with Hydrogen and the Influence of Water and Carbon Dioxide
Abstract : Environmental concern has increased over the past several years and resulted in stringent emission legislation on NOx, CO, and hydrocarbon emissions from automobile exhausts. Moreover, the demands to improve the fuel efficiency of engines and to lower the CO2 emissions have increased, and a way to meet this is by using lean burn engines which operate with oxygen excess. 2. Kinetic Studies of NOx Storage and Reduction Catalysts - Flow Reactor Experiments and Microkinetic Modeling
Abstract : The NOx storage and reduction (NSR) technology is a promising technique to reduce NOx during oxygen excess e.g. in lean burn engine exhaust. A typical NSR catalyst consists of the following components: precious metals, such as platinum, palladium or rhodium, a storage component, usually barium, and a high surface area support, such as γ-alumina. 3. FTIR Studies and Kinetic Modelling of NOX Reduction and NOX Storage
Abstract : FTIR spectroscopy and kinetic modelling have been used to study catalysts for NOX reduction and NOX storage. For Pt/Al2O3 exposed to NO, oxygen and propene IR-bands associated with nitrates, acetate, formate, carbonates and isocyanate were observed. Experiments with NO, oxygen and HNCO showed that isocyanate is an intermediate for reduction of NOX. READ MORE

4. Experimental Studies of NOx Catalysts; Storage, Reduction and Sulphur Deactivation
Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to investigate how different gaseous compounds, present in an automotive exhaust from lean-tuned combustion, interact with so-called NOx storage catalysts containing Al2O3 as a support, BaO as the NOx storage compound and noble metals to provide oxidation and reduction functions. The investigations included model sample preparations, flow reactor studies with various gas mixtures and spectroscopic experiments (FTIR and XPS). READ MORE

5. Catalytic Reduction of NOx on Heavy-Duty Trucks
Abstract : The objective of the work described in this thesis is to identify the principles and parts of an aftertreatment system for the catalytic NOx reduction for heavy-duty diesel vehicles, and to demonstrate such a system in full-scale. The reducing agent is diesel fuel. READ MORE
