  1. 21. Lean NOx reduction by alternative fuels - with focus on catalysts for dimethyl ether

    Author : Sara U Erkfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biofuel; In2O3; lean NOx reduction; alumina; Cu-ZSM-5; Ga2O3; DME; hydrocarbon-SCR; alternative fuel; NOx storage; B2O3; Ag Al2O3;

    Abstract : There is an increased demand for diesel engines running on non-fossil fuels such as dimethyl ether (DME), biodiesel and synthetic diesel. DME is a promising alternative fuel with potential for high energy efficiency and low CO2 emissions. However, during all high temperature combustion NOx is formed, which may require exhaust aftertreatment. READ MORE

  2. 22. NOx formation in iron ore rotary kilns

    Author : Rikard Edland; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rotary kiln; Grate-Kiln process; emissions control; combustion chemistry; Nitrogen oxides;

    Abstract : Iron ore pellets are often produced using the so-called Grate-Kiln process, which is designed to oxidize the magnetite (Fe3O4) to hematite (Fe2O3) and to sinter the pellets so they can be used in steel manufacturing. The heat required for this process comes from the combustion of a pulverized fuel in a rotary kiln, involving the formation of a jet flame. READ MORE

  3. 23. Aging effects on commercial lean NOx trap catalysts

    Author : Jesus De Abreu Goes; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aging; thermal degradation; sulfur poisoning; characterization; commercial lean NOx traps; NOx storage and reduction;

    Abstract : As a countermeasure to global warming, vehicles with low carbon emissions are being investigated by promoting lean-burn engines and high combustion efficiencies. However, one limitation to the increasing use of these engines is the need to develop corresponding catalytic systems for controlling the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in their lean exhaust. Abstract : The legislative limits for NOX emissions in the exhaust gas from heavy-duty diesel engines will be decreased in the European Union from today 3.5 g/kWh (Euro IV) to 2.0 g/kWh in 2008 (Euro V). In the USA and Japan a similar trend can be seen. READ MORE

    Abstract : Growing awareness of the environmental implications of emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX), such as eutrophication and acidification on land and at sea, has contributed to the development of more stringent international NOx legislations within the framework of IMO, with the most stringent legislation, Tier III, representing a NOx reduction of approximately 80% compared with today’s engines. Several NOx abatement technologies are available on the market, the most effective of which may be Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). READ MORE
