  1. 6. Experimental Studies of NOx Catalysts; Storage, Reduction and Sulphur Deactivation

    Author : Annika Amberntsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barium oxide; NOx storage; platinum; rhodium; sulphur poisoning; NOx reduction;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to investigate how different gaseous compounds, present in an automotive exhaust from lean-tuned combustion, interact with so-called NOx storage catalysts containing Al2O3 as a support, BaO as the NOx storage compound and noble metals to provide oxidation and reduction functions. The investigations included model sample preparations, flow reactor studies with various gas mixtures and spectroscopic experiments (FTIR and XPS). READ MORE

  2. 7. Simplified models for emission formation in diesel engines during transient operation

    Author : Anders Westlund; Hans-Erik Ångström; Martti Larmi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel engine; emission modeling; transient operation; NOx; Soot; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is the result of the KTH CICERO project “Dynamic Engine Performance” in which the main objective was to develop simple models foremission formation. The demand for such models is increasing, mainly due to the tightening emission legislation for diesel engines which has lead to more complex engines and thereby more laborious development and calibration processes. 3. 8. NOx formation in iron ore rotary kilns

    Author : Rikard Edland; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rotary kiln; Grate-Kiln process; emissions control; combustion chemistry; Nitrogen oxides;

    Abstract : Iron ore pellets are often produced using the so-called Grate-Kiln process, which is designed to oxidize the magnetite (Fe3O4) to hematite (Fe2O3) and to sinter the pellets so they can be used in steel manufacturing. The heat required for this process comes from the combustion of a pulverized fuel in a rotary kiln, involving the formation of a jet flame. READ MORE

  4. 9. Exhaust aftertreatment under lean conditions, regenerable SOx traps and NOx reduction catalysts

    Author : Lisa Kylhammar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heterogenous catalysis; Selective catalytic reduction; HC-SCR; Sulfur storage; SOx trap; Spectroscopy; Lean exhausts; NOx; Ag Al2O3; DRIFT; XPS;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate i) potential materials for regenerable SOx traps and ii) the influence of silver distribution within Ag/Al2O3 catalysts on the selective reduction of NOx by hydrocarbons (HC-SCR). Both areas are highly relevant for present and future vehicle aftertreatment technologies for lean exhausts. READ MORE

  5. 10. Atmospheric Chemistry of Volatile Organic Compounds: Oxidation Products, Mechanisms and Secondary Organic Aerosol Formation

    Author : Julia Hammes; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOA; VOC; anthropogenic; biogenic; FIGAERO; CIMS; HOMs; ELVOCs; atmospheric oxidation; chemical mechanism; NOx; limonene; a-pinene; TMB; ozone; nitrate; OH; radical chemistry; RO2; G-FROST; GO:PAM;

    Abstract : The results from this work are a piece in understanding the complex puzzle of atmospheric aerosol formation. Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed by the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the atmosphere is a key component of air pollution with a strong negative impact on human health and influence on climate, but its formation is poorly understood.
