  1. 1. NA transmembrane domain : Amphiphilic drift to accommodate two functions

    Author : Johan Nordholm; Robert Daniels; Ervin Fodor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; influenza; IAV; neuraminidase; NA; transmembrane domain; TMD; secretory protein; ER-targeting sequence; ER-targeting sequence coding region; protein regulation; NS1; GALLEX; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Neuraminidase (NA) is one of two major antigens on the surface of influenza A viruses. It is comprised of a single N-terminal transmembrane domain (TMD), a stalk domain, and a C-terminal enzymatic head domain that cleaves sialic acid, most notably to release new particles from the host cell surface. 2. 2. Immuno-regulatory dynamics of non-structural protein 1 of avian influenza A viruses : IFN-β, NF-κB and AP-1 perspectives

    Author : Muhammad Munir; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The type I interferon (IFN-α/β) system represents the first line of defense against influenza A viruses, and is mainly mediated by the interferon regulatory factors 3/7 (IRF3/7), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and activator protein 1 (AP-1) transcription factors. Therefore, the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of influenza A viruses has intrinsic abilities to disarm the host cell IFN system, and as a consequence is deeply connected to influenza virus pathogenicity and virulence. 3. 3. Roles of mammalian Scribble in polarity signaling, virus offense and cell-fate determination

    Author : Michael Wigerius; Magnus Johansson; Lawrence Banks; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell polarity; scribble; tbev; RhoGTPase; jak-stat; mapk; neurite outgrowth; influenza a virus; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mammalian Scribble is a target for proteins encoded by human papilloma virus, retro- and flaviviruses. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a flavivirus that have evolved distinct strategies to escape antiviral responses. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development and evaluation of a subunit DIVA vaccine against bluetongue virus serotype 8 in cattle

    Author : Jenna Anderson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Bluetongue virus (BTV) causes the primarily vector-borne bluetongue disease of ruminants, which poses a permanent threat to Europe since new serotypes and strains are frequently introduced. Vaccination of cattle is essential to control BTV outbreaks. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel treatments of glioblastoma in experimental models

    Author : Karolina Förnvik; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Experimental glioma models; Glioblastoma; Complement system; C1 esterase inhibitor; ITPP; CRP; Glioma cells;

    Abstract : One of the major problems with malignant brain tumours, such as glioblastoma multiforme, is that despite being able to remove the major bulk of the tumour through surgery and treating the patients with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we know that tumour cells have already spread throughout the brain. Furthermore, we now know that the glioblastoma cells effectively suppress the patients’ own anti-tumour response. READ MORE
