  1. 21. Characterization of non-coding mRNA in Epstein-Barr virus

    Author : Åsa Isaksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Epstein-Barr virus; EBNA1; IRES; PTLD; alternative splice; nucleotide substitution; protein interactions;

    Abstract : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human gammaherpesvirus that infects lymphoid and epithelial cells. The virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis, a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease, and it is additionally associated with various malignancies including Burkitt?s lymphoma, Hodgkin?s disease and lymphoproliferative syndromes in immunocompromised individuals. 2. 22. Computational Approaches to the Identification and Characterization of Non-Coding RNA Genes

    Author : Pontus Larsson; Anders Virtanen; Leif Kirsebom; Stephen Mount; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ncRNA; snRNA; U1; splice site; alternative splicing; Dictyostelium; nucleotide composition; partial sums; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as highly diverse and powerful key players in the cell, the range of capabilities spanning from catalyzing essential processes in all living organisms, e.g. protein synthesis, to being highly specific regulators of gene expression. READ MORE

  4. 24. To reduce a ribonucleotide – Radical solutions in enzymology in form and function

    Author : Oskar Aurelius; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribonucleotide reductase; X-ray crystallography; Small-angle X-ray scattering; nucleotide metabolism; protein biophysics; metalloproteins; anaerobic enzymology;

    Abstract : It has been more than 50 years since the enzyme system ribonucleotide reductase (RNR), catalysing the reduction of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, was first discovered. RNR was also the first time that radical chemistry was revealed in an enzyme. READ MORE

  5. 25. Effects of Antioxidants and Pro-oxidants on Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage using the Comet Assay : Studies on Blood Cells from Type 2 Diabetes Subjects and Mouse Lymphoma Cells

    Author : Rikard Åsgård; Björn Hellman; Leif Busk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolic syndrome; fruit and vegetable intake; plasma antioxidants; beta-carotene; alpha-tocopherol; inflammation; oxidative DNA damage; lipid peroxidation; mouse lymphoma assay; ROS; nucleotide pool; viability; DNA dye; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : Diet and oral supplements comprise two distinct sources of antioxidants known to prevent oxidative stress. Beneficial effects from antioxidants have been seen for patients at risk for type 2 diabetes.The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the positive effects of antioxidants against oxidative stress and DNA damage in type 2 diabetes subjects.
