  1. 1. Endoplasmic reticulum function in dendrites and dendritic spines of hippocampal neurons

    Author : Ai Na Ng; Sektion IV; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endoplasmic reticulum; primary culture; dendritic spines; live cell imaging; STIM1; carbachol; store-operated calcium entry; 3; familial Alzheimer s disease; 5-dihyroxyphenyglycine;

    Abstract : In the hippocampus, dendritic spines are compartmentalized postsynaptic micro-domains in the excitatory synapse. Subsets of bigger and mushroom-shaped hippocampal dendritic spines contain tubules and cisterns of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that are connected to the soma and dendrites of the neuron. READ MORE

  2. 2. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell

    Author : Michael Eberhardson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; diabetes; pancreatic β-cells; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; glucose; tetrodotoxin; tolbutamide; veratridine; tetraethylammonium; quinine; cesium; H2DIDS; furosemide; transients; microfluorometry; fura-2; MQAE; calcium channels; potassium channels; sodium channels; chloride channels; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 3. 3. Complexity and Error Analysis of Numerical Methods for Wireless Channels, SDE, Random Variables and Quantum Mechanics

    Author : Håkon Hoel; Anders Szepessy; Helse Holden; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wireless Channels; SDE; Monte Carlo Methods; Molecular Dynamics; Quantum Mechanics;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of the four papers which consider different aspects of stochastic process modeling, error analysis, and minimization of computational cost.     In Paper I, we construct a Multipath Fading Channel (MFC) model for wireless channels with noise introduced through scatterers flipping on and off. 4. 4. Coarse Graining Monte Carlo Methods for Wireless Channels and Stochastic Differential Equations

    Author : Håkon Hoel; Anders Szepessy; Ola Hössjer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coarse graining; Monte Carlo Methods; Stochastic processes; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers considering different aspects of stochastic process modelling and the minimisation of computational cost. In the first paper, we analyse statistical signal properties and develop a Gaussian pro- cess model for scenarios with a moving receiver in a scattering environment, as in Clarke’s model, with the generalisation that noise is introduced through scatterers randomly flip- ping on and off as a function of time. 5. 5. Dendritic and axonal ion channels supporting neuronal integration : From pyramidal neurons to peripheral nociceptors

    Author : Marcus Petersson; Erik Fransén; Theodore Cummins; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion channels; computational modeling; simulations; dendrites; axons; TRP; hippocampus; C-fiber nociceptors; pain;

    Abstract : The nervous system, including the brain, is a complex network with billions of complex neurons. Ion channels mediate the electrical signals that neurons use to integrate input and produce appropriate output, and could thus be thought of as key instruments in the neuronal orchestra. READ MORE
