26. Na,K-ATPase as signaling transducer
Abstract : It is now generally agreed that Na,K-ATPase (NKA), in addition to its role in the maintenance of Na+ and K+ gradients across the cell membrane, is a signal transducer. Our group has identified a novel signaling pathway where NKA interact with IP3R to form a signaling microdomain. READ MORE

27. Defect Thermodynamics and Kinetics in Polyanionic Cathodes : A Theoretical Roadmap for Na-ion based Batteries and Hybrid Supercapacitors
Abstract : In this thesis, the framework of the density functional theory is employed to study and predict properties of polyanionic cathodes for Na-ion batteries and hybrid supercapacitors. It consists of three main parts as follows:The first part is primarily dedicated to kröhnkite-type Na2Fe(SO4)22H2O cathode. READ MORE

29. Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy Studies of Na Islands on Graphite, Impurity Interactions on Cu(111) and Low Temperature Structures of S/Cu(111)
Abstract : A scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) can reveal the atomic order of a surface as well as details of its electronic structure. In the present work STM, in combination with core and valence photo-electron spectroscopy and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) was applied to three different systems: (i) simple metal quantum wells in the form of Na films and islands on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), (ii) low temperature S/Cu(111) structures discovered in the course of this work and (iii) impurities on Cu(111). 30. Fast and accurate integral equation methods with applications in microfluidics
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with computational methods for fluid flows on the microscale, also known as microfluidics. This is motivated by current research in biological physics and miniaturization technology, where there is a need to understand complex flows involving microscale structures. Numerical simulations are an important tool for doing this. READ MORE
