1. Nanocrystalline Tungsten Trioxide Thin Films : Structural, Optical and Electronic Characterization
Abstract : This thesis concerns experimental studies of nanocrystalline tungsten trioxide thin films. Functional properties of WO3 have interesting applications in research areas connected to energy efficiency and green nanotechnology. READ MORE

2. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

3. Amorphous, Nanocrystalline, Single Crystalline: Morphology of Magnetic Thin Films and Multilayers
Abstract : Properties of magnetic thin film devices cannot be understood without detailed knowledge of their structure. For this purpose, a variety of thin film and multilayer systems have been studied. READ MORE

4. Synthesis and Characterization of Multifunctional Carbide- and Boride-based Thin Films
Abstract : This thesis present research on synthesis, microstructure, and properties of carbide- and boride- based thin films. The films have been synthesized by dc magnetron sputtering, and their microstructures have been characterized mainly by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. 5. Electrical Transport in Nanoparticle Thin Films of Gold and Indium Tin Oxide
Abstract : Electrical transport properties of nanoparticle gold films made by the gas evaporation method were analysed using resistivity measurements. Low temperature electrical transport measurements showed a cross-over from a temperature range dominated by inelastic scattering to a temperature range dominated by elastic scattering, presumably by grain boundaries.
