1. Applications of Ion Beam Methods in Silicide/Si and Silicide/GaAs Nanometre Structures
Abstract : Ion beam methods are used to analyse material (Ion Beam Analysis, IBA) and to modify the target (Ion Beam Modification of Materials, IBMM). In this thesis, ion beams have been used in various IBA techniques to investigate the surface nanometre structures, and also in an ion beam synthesis (IBS) technique to form thin films and to modify material properties. 2. Simulations of Transport Phenomena and Porous Structures Using Dissipative Particle Dynamics
Abstract : The topic of this work is simulations of porous materials and transport phenomena at a mesoscopic length scale, i.e., a length scale larger than an individual atom but smaller than the continuum. The porous material studied is a membrane used in fuel cells. READ MORE

3. Quantitative 3D reconstruction of porous polymers using FIB-SEM tomography -correlating materials structures to properties of coatings for controlled drug release
Abstract : Porous networks are found in a wide range of different advanced and technologically important materials and influence the materials properties. The networks are active components in for example batteries, food and pharmaceuticals. The interconnectivity of a network strongly influences the transport properties. READ MORE

4. Studies of Phonons and Phase Transitions by Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction
Abstract : When light is used to study structures, the wavelength limits the size of the details that can be resolved. Visible light can be used to investigate structures as small as a micrometre in size. To study smaller structures a shorter wavelength is required. READ MORE

5. Electrochemical and mechanical thin film sensors
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the study of thin-film sensor technologies, novel microfabrication technologies, and thin-film technology in general. The work discusses electrochemical sensors and mechanical sensor technologies as well as fabrication strategies for them. READ MORE
