  1. 16. Carbon-based magnetic nanomaterials

    Author : Valeria Zagaynova; Tatiana Makarova; Mauro Ricco; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon nanotube; fullerene; single molecular magnet; Mn12; graphite fluoride; nanoporous carbon; molecular magnetism; magnetic properties; SQUID magnetometry; x-ray diffraction; Raman spectroscopy; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Magnetism of carbon-based materials is a challenging area for both fundamental research and possible applications. We present studies of low-dimensional carbon-based magnetic systems (fullerene-diluted molecular magnets, carbon nanotubes, graphite fluoride, and nanoporous carbon) by means of SQUID magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy, the latter techniques used as complementary instruments to find a correlation between the magnetic behaviour and the structure of the samples. 2. 17. Effect of Surface Nanotopography on Blood-Biomaterial Interactions

    Author : Natalia Ferraz; Marjam Ott; Jaan Hong; Jan Carlsson; Tom Eirik Mollnes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nanoporous alumina; nanotopography; biomaterial; platelets; complement system; macrophages; whole blood; inflammatory response; Chemistry; Kemi; Immunobiology; Immunbiologi; Immunologi; Immunology; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Biologically inspired materials are being developed with the aim of improving the integration of medical implants and minimizing non-desirable host reactions. A promising strategy is the design of topographically patterned surfaces that resemble those found in the extracellular environment. READ MORE

  3. 18. Nano-particulate Silica Hydrogels Imaged in 2D and 3D using TEM: Effects of local pore structure on mass transport and applications in aggregation dynamics

    Author : Charlotte Hamngren Blomqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; silica gel; colloidal silica gel; interconnectivity; nanoporous; electron tomography; silica nanoparticle gel; mass transport; nanostructure; accessible volume fraction; 3D structure;

    Abstract : Porous materials are frequently used in everyday applications including food science, pharmaceuticals, fuel cell membranes, batteries and solar cells. A key aspect in these porous materials is how their micro- and nano-structure affect the internal transport of for example water, particles or charges. The transport is a three-dimensional process. 4. 19. Preparation and Evaluation of New Nanoporous Silica Materials for Molecular Filtration and for Core Materials in Vacuum Insulation Panels

    Author : Ebenezer Twumasi Afriyie; Folke Björk; Christer Sjöström; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Per Jostein Hovde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adsorbents; activated carbon; MgCa-silica; carbon-silica composite; characterization; porous parameters; molecular filtration; thermal conductivity; thermal insulation;

    Abstract : Nanoporous materials for gas purification and thermal insulation have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Further the utilization of nanoporous material as thermal insulator in building applications is limited due to high cost. READ MORE

  5. 20. Synthesis and Characterisation of Potential Hydrogen Storage Materials

    Author : Emil Johansson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Astrid Pundt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Hydrogen; adsorption; absorption; thermodynamics; thin films; carbon nanostructures; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The dissociative and non-dissociative hydrogen uptake in carbon nanostructures and metallic films were investigated by measurements and analysis of solubility isotherms. The total, non-dissociative, uptake for multi-walled nano-barrels and amorphous nanoporous carbon was determined to be 6.2 and 4.2 wt. READ MORE
