  1. 1. From Time-Averaged to Time-Resolved Crystallography: Studies on Superoxide Dismutase and Myoglobin

    Author : Thomas Ursby; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superoxide dismutase; Bayesian statistics; electron difference maps; synchrotron; docking site; photolysis; myoglobin; Time-resolved crystallography; Laue; thermostability; Sulfolobus solfataricus; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : We have studied protein motions with nanosecond time-resolved crystallography. The release of carbon monoxide from its complex with myoglobin (MbCO) was triggered by nanosecond laser pulses. X-ray data were collected with time delays ranging from 4 ns to 1.9 ms using the Laue method, at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring Electron Transfer Dynamics of Novel Dye Sensitized Photocathodes : Towards Solar Cells and Solar Fuels

    Author : Lei Zhang; Leif Hammarström; Yiying Wu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron transfer; Laser spectroscopy; Femtosecond spectroscopy; Transient absorption; NiO; DSSCs; DSSFDs; Charge separation; Solar energy conversion; Nanosecond photolysis; Photophysics; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : The design of dyes for NiO-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has drawn attention owing to their potential applications in photocatalysis and because they are indispensable for the development of tandem dye-sensitized solar cells. The understanding of the electron transfer mechanisms and dynamics is beneficial to guide further dye design and further improve the performance of photocathode in solar cells and solar fuel devices. 3. 3. Tuning electron transfer reactions by selective excitation in porphyrin-acceptor assemblies

    Author : Mikael Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns electron transfer reactions from different excited states in porphyrins, and the effect of changing the energy of the link connecting the donor and acceptor. Photoinduced electron transfer, and subsequent processes were studied using ultrashort laser pulses and nanosecond laser flash photolysis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Short-Pulse Photofragmentation and Fluorescence-based Diagnostics - Development and Applications

    Author : Malin Jonsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydroxyl radical OH ; Short-pulse excitation; Photofragmentation; Combustion diagnostics; Laser-induced fluorescence; Hydrogen peroxides; Collisional quenching; Fysicumarkivet A:2015:Jonsson;

    Abstract : The work presented in the thesis covers the use of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and photofragmentation laser-induced fluorescence (PFLIF) with short laser pulses to determine species concentrations in different combustion environments. To attain quantitative species concentrations using LIF investigations of the influence of collisional quenching on the fluorescence signal strength is of vital importance, which can be done by measuring the fluorescence lifetime. 5. 5. Compounds with Non-Buttressed Metal-Metal Bond between Platinum and Thallium. Model Systems for Photoinduced Two-Electron-Transfer

    Author : Mikhail Maliarik; KTH; []
    Keywords : thallium; platinum; cyanide; metal-metal bond; non-buttressed; heterometallic; photoinduced; electron transfer; redox reaction; NMR; chemical shift; spin-spin coupling constant; Raman; EXAFS; X-ray diffraction; equilibrium; oxidation state; oxidative;

    Abstract : A new family of oligonuclear cyano compounds incorporatingtransition (Pt) and main group (Tl) metals bound with anon-buttressed Pt-Tl bond was synthesised in aqueous solution.The metal-metal linkage is formed in the reaction betweenplatinum and thallium in their stable oxidation forms, Pt(II)and Tl(III), orvice versa: Pt(IV) and Tl(I).
