  2. 2. Data Analysis in High-Energy Physics as a Differentiable Program

    Author : Nathan Simpson; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; differentiable programming; machine learning; particle physics;

    Abstract : Machine learning methods are now ubiquitous in physics, but often target objectives that are one or two steps removed from our physics goals. A prominent example of this is the discrimination between signal and background processes, which doesn’t account for the presence of systematic uncertainties – something crucial for the calculation of quantities such as the discovery significance and upper limits. 3. 3. Rhythm in late-modern Stockholm : Social stratification and stylistic variation in the speech of men

    Abstract : This  thesis  conducts  a  philosophical,  theoretical, and  practical  exploration  of digital technology design to examine how digital technologies can fulfill our two-facet of existentiality – identified in the thesis as belonginess and novelty. By belonginess, I identify human’s innate need for a feeling of connectedness and harmony with the self, others, and the natural world. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling Towards Control of Dynamic Systems : Applications on RDF Fired CFB Performance and DHN Distribution

    Author : Nathan Zimmerman; Konstantinos Kyprianidis; Carl-Fredrik Lindberg; Erik Dahlquist; Natasa Nord; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heat and Power; Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler; District Heating; Model Predictive Control; Feed-Forward; CHP; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The combination of global warming along with increasing energy demand necessitates the importance of improving processes pertaining to the production and consumption of energy in combined heat and power plants. This thesis brings to light transient factors currently burdening process performance for circulating fluidized bed boilers (CFBs) combusting refuse derived fuels (RDFs) and district heating networks (DHN).
