  1. 1. Diagnostics of stator insulatin by dielectric response and variable frequency partial discharge measurements : a study of varied low frequencies in stator insulation, with particular attention to end-winding stress-grading

    Author : Nathaniel Taylor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : Stator insulation is a critical to the reliability of electrical generators and motors. It is common industrial practice to use electrical measurement of partial discharges (PD) and some form of current-voltage measurement as part of the condition assessment of stator insulation at maintenance times. 2. 2. Dielectric response and partial discharge measurements on stator insulation at varied low frequency

    Author : Nathaniel Taylor; Hans Edin; Shesha Jayaram; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : This is a study of potential improvements of diagnostic methods used on high-voltage generators and motors.  It considers offline electrical measurements on the main insulation of stator windings, where a sinusoidal voltage is applied between the winding and the stator-core, and the total current through the insulation (dielectric spectroscopy, DS) and the rapid current-pulses arising from discharges (partial discharge, PD) are measured. 3. 3. Fault location in resonant earthed medium voltage distribution systems

    Author : Md Zakaria Habib; Nathaniel Taylor; Mohamed F. Abdelfattah; Matti Lehtonen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical distribution; Distribution network; Reliability; SAIDI; Fault location; FL; Fault passage indicator; FPI; Compensated neutral; Resonant earthing; Resonant grounding; Petersen coil; Arc suppression coil.; Distributionsnät; Tillförlitlighet; Fellokalisering; FL; Felpassageindikation; FPI; Kompenserat nät; Spoljordat nät; Petersenspole.; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : A major challenge in electric distribution systems is to increase the reliability of the electricity supply in an economical way. At the final medium-voltage level in the system, such as 10 kV or 20 kV, a single feeder may supply tens of medium/low-voltage transformers and hundreds of customers, with many branches of lines and cables where faults can occur. 4. 4. Enhanced Dielectric Response Methods for the Characterization of Dielectric Materials

    Author : Jing Hao; Nathaniel Taylor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FDS; non-contact; dielectric response; combined AC and DC; space-charge polarization;

    Abstract : Dielectric response measurement is widely used for condition assessment of high voltage equipment and for characterizing candidate materials. Measurement with high accuracy and reliability is important in all stages of the lifetime of high voltage equipment, from manufacture to replacement decision. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distance Protection of Transmission Lines with High Levels of Series Compensation : A study on frequency and time domain communication independent distance protection for series compensated lines

    Author : Md Tanbhir Hoq; Nathaniel Taylor; Jianping Wang; Claus Leth Bak; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Series capacitor; Series compensation; Transmission line; Distance protection; Incremental quantity; Lissajous curve; RL model; RLC model; Seriekondensator; Seriekompensation; Transmissionslinje; Distansskydd; Inkrementell kvantitet; Lissajous-kurva; RL-modell; RLC-modell; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Series capacitors are used in electric transmission lines to increase their power transfer capacity. They compensate for the inductive reactance of the line. They offer a useful alternative to building new lines, in view of economic and environmental constraints. READ MORE
