  1. 21. Understanding Crustal Volatiles : Provenance,  Processes and Implications

    Author : Lara S. Blythe; Valentin Troll; Ralf Gertisser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crustal volatiles; helium; carbon; volcanic gases and fluids; xeno-pumice; magma-carbonate interaction; upper crustal contamination;

    Abstract : Knowledge of the provenance of crustal volatiles and the processes by which they are released is extremely important for the dynamics of magmatic systems. Presented here are the results of multiple investigations, which aim to understand magmatic volatile contamination from contrasting but complementary perspectives. READ MORE

  2. 22. Agpaitic Rocks of the Norra Kärr Alkaline Complex: Chemistry, Origin, and Age of Eudialyte-hosted Zirconium and Rare-earth Element Ore

    Author : Axel S.L. Sjöqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Norra Kärr alkaline complex; agpaitic rocks; eudialyte; rare-earth elements; geochronology; radiogenic isotope geochemistry;

    Abstract : Agpaites are peralkaline nepheline syenites that are denominated by rock-forming complex silicate minerals such as eudialyte. The exotic mineralogy and chemistry of these rocks are not only interesting for research, but globally these rocks also have potential as polymetallic resources of elements such as zirconium, niobium, rare-earth elements, zinc, and uranium. 3. 23. Past environment and sediment dynamics in the Black Sea-Caspian Sea region from Southern Russian loess sequences

    Author : Chiara Amalia Költringer; Thomas Stevens; Bjarne Almqvist; Ian Snowball; Kathryn Fitzsimmons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Loess deposits are excellent past climate and environment archives and contain records of aeolian mineral dust accumulation. Loess deposits stretch across Eurasia and sequences along the Lower Volga in the Northern Caspian lowland in the South East European Plain represent a key link between European and Asian loess. 4. 24. Characterization of Gold Pathfinder Minerals

    Author : Gabriel Kofi Nzulu; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this Thesis, I investigate the properties of artisanal small-scale gold mining concentrate samples from the Kubi Gold Project of the Asante Gold Corporation near Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region of Ghana with a material science perspective.X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used to identify SiO2 (quartz), Fe3O4 (magnetite), and Fe2O3 (hematite) as the main indicator minerals in the mining site while contributions from pyrite, arsenopyrites, iridosmine, scheelite, tetradymite, garnet, gypsum, and other sulfate minerals were insignificant. 5. 25. Geology, stratigraphy, and fossil vertebrates of Gotland, Sweden : a review

    Author : Oskar Bremer; Henning Blom; Per Ahlberg; Märss Tiiu; Jan Ove Ebbestad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silurian; Gotland geology; Baltic Basin; extinction events; isotope excursions; atmospheric and oceanic cycles; early vertebrates; scale taxonomy; environmental preferences; vertebrate biozonation.; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Abstract : The Silurian limestones of Gotland, Sweden, and their exceptionally well-preserved fossils have attracted the interest of scientists for more than 200 years. The sedimentary rocks represent approximately 10 million years of time, and were deposited in a shallow, equatorial inland sea named the Baltic Basin. READ MORE
